He sat out the 19-20 year and wasn't the 19-20 the Covid Year? He could come into the Aztec program and fine-tune his defense by playing 20-25 minutes (keeping Heide to red-shirt) Why do I feel that he'll land in SEC with cash in his pockets? (LSU, Kentucky, Alabama, Mizzu) There's no way he follows the Muss Buss to Arkan$a$, "Fool me once shame on you fool me twice shame on me." After being tricked once, he should learn from his mistakes and avoid being tricked in the same way again. Was thought of as a one-and-done candidate in 2018, 6 years later: Nevada 1x, Arizona 2x, Louisiana 2x he is still in the portal. One Twitter comment "Dude is now married with two kids." can't be that far off from the truth.

One Twitter comment "Dude is now married with two kids." can't be that far off from the truth. I asked Coach Dutch about this guy and he just rolled his eyes and said that this cat is just looking for the NIL money. We don't have any interest as most would expect. He did say (Stan will be very happy) the Coaching Staff still has their eyes on a couple of 5's. Sounds like it has to be the right player for the team to consider. Also, for you basketball junkies, State is hosting a basketball tournament with some really good teams. The Aztec coaching staff is there and watching some players. The Aztec players are there as well. It was cool to have a chance to talk to a couple of the coaches/players and just chat about basketball. DJ Gay has a really good team (Windward I think) this year and Coach was there for a couple of their kids from what I could make out.

Spent a good deal of time going through the 180 Centers in the portal, out of the total 1,768 players who entered. Most guys who play "the 5" have been snatched up and are committed, it's slim pickings, but if we are after a backup postman we're in better shape than looking for a starter. Decent Back-Up "Fives"Adrame Diongue 7'1 195 WSU Wilhelm Breidenbach 6'11 225 Nebraska (Mater Dei, CA) Mac Etienne 6'10 235 UCLA John Bol Ajak 6'10 215 Syracuse Mouhamadou Cissé 6'10 210 St. Louis Carlos Curry 6'11 240 GA Southern David Muoka 6'10 235 UNLV Davion Bradford 7'0 265 Wake Forest Tim Ighoefe 7'0 235 CAL Baptist Sam Freeman 6'10 240 UoP John Ojiako 6'10 245 Geo Mason D.J. Basey 6'10 230 Coastal Carolina Isaiah Miranda 7'1 205 NC State Best Starter "Fives" Grant Nelson 6'11 235 ND State Malcolm Dandridge 6'9" 250 Memphis Connor Vanover 7'5 227 Oral Roberts Connor Vanover to Mizzou. Vanover, a native of Little Rock, Arkansas contributes much of the reason for his choosing Missouri to Tigers’ assistant David Nutt, along with head coach Dennis Gates. “Coach Nutt and I had a good connection from our first phone call with his ties with Little Rock. Coach Gates is one of the hottest coaches in America. I believe they can help me reach more of my potential than I have before.”The 6'9" 250 lb Memphis transfer, Malcolm Dandridge, is at St.L U this weekend. One of the top post players in the portal, aside from being on everyone's wish list, I haven't seen him linked to the Aztecs. Either way, it looks like there is still some behind-the-scenes discussion with the SDSU staff and post players.

Will the 7'0" 195lb Center, Adrame Diongue commit to SJSU and be the next star for Tim Miles? Could be, but would look better in Aztec Red/Black. Alabama is strong on Diongue as well.

Roll Tide fans believe Alabama may land Nelson. Plus, either David Muoka, Adrame Diongue, or Jordan Brown. Muoka has received interest from multiple Power Five programs, including Kansas State, Washington State, Vanderbilt and Arkansas.

Trinity Valley CC signed the 21-year-old Senegalese 6'10" center. Cisse originally came from Dakar, and he is moving from St.L. D1 to JuCo where he played only for one year. He is off the portal boards.

Grant Nelson ND State PF, declared for the 2023 NBA Draft and entered the transfer portal. After receiving NBA feedback, Nelson elected to forgo the draft and explore his options in the transfer portal.
His commitment to the Crimson Tide means a great deal given the fact that two of Alabama’s starters in the frontcourt players Noah Clowney and Charles Bediako are leaving. Nelson can play any position on the floor as could Clowney. Nelson is 6'11"& 235 pounds. Nelson can also protect the rim, and rebound, and has proven to shoot fairly well from a distance.

Does his commitment mean a different big may now be available ?

Does his commitment mean a different big may now be available? Alabama has been linked to many bigs. Nelson is more of a 6'11 point forward, so Bama may still be looking for a rim protector. But two other Aztec targets Diongue of Wazzu and Malcolm Dandridge (linked?) from Memphis may have second thoughts.

Just throwing another name out there, albeit I doubt it happens. Dishon Jackson, 6'10, 250lb C formally of WSU. Just went back into the portal after committing to Charlotte (their HC left for Virginia). Played in 2021 & 2022, prior to taking a medical RS in 2023 for an unnamed condition (had surgery but why not revealed). Very talented player, when healthy. Would have been the starting center for WSU this past season (allowing Diongue to RS).
Why he's a fit - while he's probably seeking a bigger role than we can offer, the fact he'll had medical issues could make playing 15-ish minutes a night for a year attractive & a good fit. Assuming his condition doesn't require special care. Would be a very efficient player in limited minutes, and is a proven scorer at the P12 level. Dropped 18 on USC as a FR; has scored in double figures 10 times in P12 games, etc.
Why not a fit - given 2021 covid year, plus missing last year he'll have 3 years to play 3 remaining, putting him in the same class as Shay (but a year older). He's not the 1-year player that Dutch & crew are seeking.
His barrier to us is basically the same as Diongue, but in a different way. Diongue is 185 soaking wet, and needs a year to develop. If he'd RS, putting him a year behind Shay, it'd make more sense but that doesn't address our needs this year. Jackson may require a year to get back to where he was, but has used his RS and, again, he'd conflict with Shay.

U think Johnson will be the only one? If one of the young studs coming in blows up they wouldn't consider it? It's reality! And common sense.

Last year, Jackson was hampered by injuries and averaged 6 points and 4.2 rebounds over 25 games, missing 12 with various injuries. He injured his hand on the rim while trying to block a shot and then got hit in the eye against Utah shortly after he returned from the hand injury.
A 4-star recruit on 247Sports out of high school, Jackson signed with WSU in April of 2020 over offers from Arizona, Cal, New Mexico, Nevada and Saint Mary's. In two years, he started 19 games for WSU and scored in double figures 13 times over the last two seasons, topped by an 18-point showing against USC in 2021.
