One of the most unique features of Snapdragon Stadium is the angled light towers, but how would that design work with canopies? It seems like they would not be able to fully illuminate the field during night games. Most MLS stadiums tend to have lighting under or at the tips of the shade structures. Perhaps it is retractable for night games?

State has always had the MLS playing at Snapdragon as part of the long term financial picture… the one change is the P10 offer… there has been a Olán in place to expand the stadium once we receive a P5 invite…
They will have to work out the stadium size and MLS needs…

Perhaps it is retractable for night games? Probably a good question. But its been long reported that canopies can be added in the event that a MLS team comes to SnapDragon and the soccer teams wants, and is willing to pay for, them. Wild guess ... maybe the towers between the lights are build so that extensions can be added to get the canopies above the lights.

Perhaps it is retractable for night games? Don’t lose sleep over this. They anticipated doing canopies from the very first meetings. I believe they made sure not to have utilities in the areas where the canopy foundations will be poured. I have no clue how it will look but rest assured it’s not an issue.

Wow, the thought of another group coming in and getting the MLS spot... and not the Loyal/ Landon Donovan... does sort of warm my heart after the Sucker City fiasco. LOL

Personally, I hope it's a straight lease and not any kind of equity deal. The most expensive way to raise money is to give up equity.

Your probably right but stadiums aren’t big money makers so if you have to give on that I don’t see the big deal. The best part of the former Q site is the ancillary land and revenue for generations. No one is putting their hand into that pot. We have some damn smart real estate people on our side now so I’m not worried.

Yesterday, Darren Smith was teasing some upcoming developments in the world of MLS expansion, which, I know, maybe three people on this board really care about. In a nutshell, here's what Smith had to say: * According to sources, MLS expansion to Vegas has hit some potholes and is likely not going to happen. * Next up is San Diego. * JD Wicker has been in discussions with MLS and their plans to expand into San Diego, either through a new investment group or by elevating a lower-level team already here. * One of the sticking points is the lack of canopies on Snapdragon, which Wicker says can and will be added should the MLS choose San Diego for expansion. * Smith says official announcements regarding these developments are expected within the next one to two weeks. It's all hot air, of course, until it isn't. Stay tuned. I cannot wait for them to be install them. Wicker said an insane $50 to $100 million. It will be nice to know the final costs and see how much bs that “estimate” of $100 million was

It will be nice to know the final costs and see how much bs that “estimate” of $100 million was I was listening to Darren Smith this afternoon, and he was reading through the press releases issued jointly by Sycuan and the Mansour Group, as well as some statements by MLS officials, SDSU, etc. The number Smith said was being kicked around for the canopies was somewhere in the $80m to $125m range. Apparently, SDSU was prepared to add canopies prior to construction, but MLS wasn't yet on board and didn't want to pull the trigger at that time, hence the higher price now.

Zeigler would probably enjoy the heck out of it if this meant the end to the Loyal and Donovan had no where to go in San Diego. He hasn’t been back on with Smith since the incident so I’m sure he’s still upset with Donovan.

The fear-based conspiracy mongers will be jumping all over this, eventually. If not on this board, somewhere else, no doubt.

Yes I am. That's rather obvious from looking at their respective end zones. I highly doubt that the raiders will have "REBELS" in their end zones

Below is a paragraph from that article. I've bolded part of it for you.
"SDSU Athletic Director John David Wicker has said he would offer flexible financial terms, either as a traditional rental arrangement or an equity partnership where the MLS club would invest in the stadium and have access to more revenue streams from concessions, parking, advertising and ancillary events."
