I'd say they're in that worse spot right now. In fact, they're in a real mess. And now the crowd's back in the game. No, you're not. It's the same outcome, just a different route to get there. Martinez isn't stretched out to be anything more than a bridge guy. Yeah basically. Hindsight is always 20/20. In retrospect of course we would rather have gone Martinez for 3, and then used 5 or 6 normal relievers. Tanks your bullpen considering that we have up to 4 more games in 4 days... well if we can win that is. Who knew that our 4th and 5th starters would give up 8 earned runs in... what, an inning and a third? I still can't believe Clev couldn't even get an out. He must not be right physically. I wonder what we will offer him in FA.

Clev and Manaea every other pitch it felt like they missed middle-middle. Awful performance by both of them. They made it so easy for the Phillies.

How bout no champagne parties till you actually win something? Montana after "the catch" and first Super Bowl. Some teammates wanted to have a big party. Montana wanted nothing to do with it. "We still have one game left".

I get why the team was so pumped after the LDS. They slayed the dragon. Beating the Dodgers was a big deal.
But it kind of seems like that elation and celebration took the edge away from this team. They look emotionally spent, to a degree.

They look the same as they’ve looked all season. Who couldn’t have predicted this? Come on. Be realistic…

They look emotionally spent, to a degree. No doubt. I attribute that to a big part of why we lost game 1, although Wheeler was great that day. Uh oh, guess who we're facing today? Yep, Wheeler. No wonder we're underdogs even though Darvish is pitching. We have our work cut out for us, to say the least.

If I didn't watch the game today, and someone told that we only used Darvish, Suarez, and Hader, I would say that we must've won.

Not shocked. Darvish has a tendency to give up home runs.

I swear I was about to type, “Darvish is missing his location, it’s just a matter of time” but Hoskins beat me to it.
The Pads need to solve Wheeler.

Barring a miracle, this series is done. The Phillies are red hot, the Padres aren't. The Padres aren't playing badly, just not at the same level the Phillies are.
As I said earlier in the thread, these teams are evenly matched, but it's clear now that the Phillies are in a groove and the Padres aren't.

Soto in a playoff groove, can that transfer to anyone else?

As I watched the modern (soon to be illegal) shift, I couldn't help but think, "Tony Gwynn might have hit .500 against that shift!"

OK, so Yu is 36 years old. How much longer is he going to be able to pitch at a high level? (#1 or #2 pitcher in the rotation)
Today he's struggling a little. Not a lot, but he is definitely not pitching as well as he has in the past.

Clawing back to take the lead, but the conditions fully suck right now.
Hold 'em in the bottom of the inning, then call this game and send it back where it never rains!
