Both Yu and Manaea have silenced Arizona's hitters. Will the rest of the staff show up tonight when they're called on? Or should Manaea hoard his pitches in order to finish the no-hitter himself?
Fingers crossed…

If he can keep the pitch count down, I say go for it. Heading into the 8th now!!!

Just a two hitter.😎 CJ Abrams with a sparkling defensive play and Taylor Rogers with the 1-2-3 save. 3-0 Padres.
Either Arizona is just a weak hitting bunch or the Pads have some dominant starting pitching.

1-1 after two games.
The first game was rather disappointing as the Padres gave it away, but the 2nd game was a great display of pitching and defense.
Let's see where things go from here...

It'll be hard to call an "Ace" if they can all pitch up to their potential. Right now, Clevenger and Snell are question marks, but either certainly has the potential - and the ability - to out pitch any of the others. It'll be interesting to see if No-No Joe comes out firing a no-hitter through six or seven innings tonight. No pressure, Joe. Just do it.

Lets talk about last night's game. A great pitching performance, again, and the defense was very, very good. This time the shutout held up.
Any concerns about the offense? 5 runs in two games against Arizona. Super, super early in the season, though.

Arizona's best two starters are now on the books, so we'll see what happens tonight. Last season Davies wasn't even mediocre. Was 2020 a fluke? Somebody must've thought so, it was good that the Padres dumped him when they did. Yu > Zack
Last night was a great start to Abrams MLB career despite his plate appearances. Had to be some large butterflies in his stomach! Wil Myers is floundering at the plate, didn't have a strong spring and it's following him into the regular season - but how far will it go? And how much longer before he gets assigned to bench waxing? The Padres have some potential winners just waiting in the wings …

A big part of our run production is out, Tatis, so we need good pitching and hopefully Kim and Abrams can pick up some of the slack.

If the Padres' run production is that dependent on one guy then this team isn't a legit contender. A team needs depth and multiple players who can produce runs to be a legit contender. Do they have that depth and other consistent sources of run production? They'll definitely need to pick it up given who else is in the NL West.

The juries still out on whether these guys will hit, or not. It's good to see Hosmer off to a great start, but will he be consistent. Kim needs to come up big for us as well. Myers looks HORRIBLE at the plate, flailing away with his swing. It's super early, so I'm optimistic. Love Abrams.

Got some offense late, winning 5-2 today. The pitching wasn't as good, but still more than good enough.

Clevinger and Snell already missing starts, after only one series…...not good. Rumors are circulating that Gore might get a call up, he looked overpowering at times in a recent AAA start.

Clevinger should be back next week. Expected to rehab later this week in Lake Elsinore. Not sure I've seen anything credible linking Gore to a start other than hypothesis by the writers because the dates line up with Snell's start. Knehr could get the start as well, as he would be on 4 days rest.

If Gore continues to mow down AAA hitters, he may force the Padres hand. If it is just for 1-2 starts they might go with Knehr, or if Snell’s problems persist we will finally get to see Gore.

Gore's made one start in Triple-A. EVT basically just got it from Acee/Lin. It's a logical conclusion based on the dates aligning, but to my knowledge, the team is going to get Gore up to stay when he's ready. Rosters going down in a couple of weeks will be pretty important.
