Agree. Caps NILs at 25k/season. Kid gets free room and board, books and meals + 2k/mos to spend as he wishes. There's no way they need more than that. Completely free all expenses paid education.

Would guess that there will be the NIL battles between the P5 conferences and schools
then also the NIL battles between the G5 schools ( they already are behind in benefits they can give recruits and players - compared to the P5 )
NCAA screwed it up by not proving maybe some limited NIL benefits and now they have been forced to look the other way

What happened to the student part of student-athlete? What's a free 4 year college scholarship worth these days?

There is a myth that the colleges are making big money. That may be true for about 10 to 20 of the big name schools. But for all the rest, the athletic departments are scrambling to keep out of the red. It is extremely expensive to fund all of the sports, many of which have little or no income to the school. So in many cases football makes a small profit but it is needed to support the other sports.

As is the value of the free tuition & board, which is around $40k-$50k. The goal of 90% of athletic dept's is the simply breakeven. The schools which are paying obscene amounts of money to HC's are always referenced in those same discussions, but those are also a small minority. The thing that's come into play now, is some schools have put together alum NIL groups who get together & figure out ways to get money for a specific kid. That's great, but in some case instead of this being incremental $$ it's money those groups no longer give to the schools that were important in helping them fund scholarships. Caps are important in most sports - NBA & NFL, obviously, and the MLB has a pseudo cap (luxury tax threshold) that would be a hard cap if not for the power of the MLBPA. College sports is heading in that direction. The problem is always the few who can't help themselves.

And even with the middle tier schools where athletes may generate a pretty good amount of money for the school, that money still goes mostly toward mega sports-related expenses the school incurs for travel, uniforms, equipment, weight rooms, medical, etc, etc, etc. It was definitely unfair that athletes couldn't take on a job while in school to help pay for some expenses, though that was outlawed mainly because so many schools were abusing it by assigning bogus jobs, or paying extra under the table, etc.

Another topic off the rail from it's original intent. Less than a week to go before we get portal guys in so we click on this to get info on who is coming. Instead we get a discussion about nil which we have no control over.

Others don't. If we really want to capitalize in the portal, then we (as a collective whole) can reach out to the athletic dept & put together NIL deals to help make that happen. That said, yea, it'd be nice to have a list of incoming & outgoing Aztecs via the portal. Luckily there's a webpage that allows you do see that, albeit it doesn't include Bennett (& may not be 100% complete). 247sports.com/Season/2022-Football/TransferPortal/?institutionkey=24082

Would agree we should benefit with the additions compared to what we lost in the Portal
But for those who thought G5 schools would reap great benefits getting some great transfers from the P5 - does not look like it - as most of the better P5 players found other P5 schools to transfer to .

I definitely haven't seen or read anyone thinking that. Most think the opposite, actually. IMO it's the rich getting richer on each level. The better P5's will benefit, while the lesser P5's may not. The better G5's, like us, should benefit like we have, but the lesser ones definitely not.

I totally agree with you that with most rule changes the Higher level P5 benefit the most and then it is trickle down effects
At the time the rule was put into affect there were at some that thought it would be a big benefit to SDSU and we would get a good amount of players from the P5 schools but as shown they usually head to other P5 schools .
Has there been any talk about a Transfer QB or are the coaches ok with what we will have ?
What is the last date players have to register for Jan classes so a transfer could participate in Spring Practices -?

The better G5's will do better than the lesser G5's, and possibly as well if not better than the lower their P5's. We've added what we need to add, other than QB & possibly another OL & DL. Brady said in his press conference last week that'd we'd know more within the next week or so about the QB situation, so my guess is they're going through the admittance & NCAA approval process if something is in queue. Classes start Wednesday, although I'd guess you could go into next week & still be fine.
