Boy was I ever naive. I thought the reason the trade included a "player to be named" was due to us asking for Bosox 1st round pick from last year, knowing that a draft pick cannot be traded in their first year of pro ball. I thought the trade would be completed in August of this year.
Crap, pulled one over on me. I hope these prospects pan out for us, if not then we're done for. I am happy with what I've read of Kelly and Rizzo. If Reyes reaches or comes close to the Ellsbury comparison then I'll be happy with him too.
Patterson though dismay's me at this time. Hopefully I'm wrong and he turns out to be quite a player. The cynic in me say's not.

He's still my favorite player in the game. I find myself watching Red Sox games, or at least his at bats because of him. Of course it doesn't hurt that I have him on one of my fantasy baseball teams either. ;D

Tell you one thing, I sure didn't expect the Pads to be .235 winning % ahead of the R-Sox at this point...

Although I DID expect the Pads to be in last, which I predict they will never climb out of the entire rest of the season...

Every report on Rizzo is that he is a lock to hit in the majors. I sure hope so.

That's about 10 mill a year more than the Padres would have *coughed* up so it looks like both he and the Pads made the right moves.

Every report on Rizzo is that he is a lock to hit in the majors. I sure hope so. He's tearing it up in AAA right now. His stat line so far: .378/.410/.703 with 3 HR's and 13 RBI's in 8 games. ***Edit*** I heard an analyst the other day whom I can't remember right now, compare Rizzo to Keith Hernandez. I'd take that production every day of the week. By the way San Antonio our AA team put up 26 runs on the scoreboard yesterday. Jaff Decker is leading the way with the following stat line: .412/.535/.971 with 5 DBL's, 1 Triple, 4 HR's and 15 RBI's including 9 BB's, in 8 games.

This will turn out to be a great trade for both parties. Rizzo will be our everyday first basemen by next year, if not sooner. Raking in AAA right now. Kelly will be a solid number 2 starter for many seasons. The added depth to the farm system coupled with the improvements of guys like James Darnell and Keyvius Sampson make the Padres a top 10 farm system.
