We've been through this before.
Epstein: You can have any combination of young talent except Ellsbury and Buchholz. Hoyer: Got it... Well... We will have.... Ellsbury.... aaaaannnnnnddddd......... Epstein: ....Yeessss? Hoyer: Buchholz. Epstein: No. Anyone BUT those two. Hoyer: oh oh oh.. Ok OK OK .. we will have...... Buchholz annnnnnddddd......... Epstein: Yes? Yes? Yes ? Who?! Hoyer: Ellsbury! Epstein: *FACE PALM* No... Look.. Jed...

Haha...well, if I was Hoyer, no way I do a deal unless Ellsbury is in it.
They can keep Bucholz, but I would request top prospect Casey Kelly also.
Ellsbury, Kelly, and two other good prospects.

Buster Olney reported earlier that Heath Bell could be packaged in this deal as well. Don't see Ellsbury being a part of the deal. Problem with the Sox is most of these guys that are rumored to be pieces struggled last year. Kelly had a horrible year in the minors, Iglesias struggled with the bat, and so on. Honestly, I think a better fit would be the Rays. Better prospects (Hellickson, Jennings and others) and they just dumped Carlos Pena.

It will be a shame if they don't get more than that for him IMHO...

Hence letting Crawford walk this year. There is no way they would be able to re-sign Adrian, so they face the same problem as us. I'd be highly surprised, due to this, if they gave us top tier prospects for a one-year rental. But.....it has happened before. When the Brewers gave up some pretty good prospects to have Sabathia for half a season.

I'd take him, but its important that the other two prospects be highly regarded (by the Padres scouting people, not fans). Hoyer and his top scouting deputy are as familiar as anyone with the Red Sox system, so you'd have to trust their judgement in this trade. I still want Ellsbury though. That sucks.

I'm happy for Adrian. We all knew this was coming. I'm not that upset.

Nice, get rid of the only guy on our team that could do anything at the plate.
I think I've just about had enough of the padres. I'm sorry, I like pitching and defense, but every once in a while it's a thrill to see someone just power a ball over the fence. But Headley can't do it, Venable can't hit more than .220 in a given month, Cabrera never could, Blanks looked just awful doing anything at the plate, you saw what happened to Ludwick, and Maybin is about to find out what all the other players know: That Petco is a singles park. The gaps in Petco are where HRs and doubles go to die. So after a few games of stealing bases at will they go back to station to station. Moneyball by another name.
I know we couldn't pay him and we had to trade him, but now that he's gone get Moorad's bitch ass to pull the fences in a little so the game isn't so one dimensional.

I'm curious to see if Blanks starts the year with the big league club, or AAA. I guess it depends on his spring training success, or lack thereof. He looked clueless at the plate often last season, but I like his potential. He's still very young.

The source said we're getting 4 prospects. Right now it looks like 3 have been linked. Their #1, #3, and #6.
It would be nice if they gave us their #2 considering he's a SS and we desperately need help in the middle infield.

I'm happy for Adrian. We all knew this was coming. I'm not that upset. Agree with this. We knew that ownership was not going to commit $150M or so to Adrian. We can only hope these prospects can really play. As of this moment, our already putrid offense looks even worse with no Tejada, and no Gonzalez. We'll see how the rest of the hot stove season goes for us.

Well we just unloaded $6 mil and they said that the payroll would increase from last year so let's hope we can sign at least one bat that is capable of 20-25 homeruns...

That article Tec posted above gives some good insight on the prospects.
I like this bit:
ANTHONY RIZZO
This is what Adrian Gonzalez did for the Portland Sea Dogs as a 20-year-old in 2002: .266/.344/.437/.781, 17 HR, 96 RBI, 138 games
This is what Anthony Rizzo did for the Portland Sea Dogs as a 20-year-old in 2010, following his early-season promotion from Hi-A Salem: .263/.334/.481/.815, 20 HR, 80 RBI in 107 games

Yeah well he's a left handed bat too.. Does he have opposite field power??!?
I don't understand why the front office has never targeted a right handed power bat.
Rizzo seems like he's still at least a year away.
