Always a mis-adventure when those two converge, this time it was quite physical. This is fundamental baseball at its worst. Call the ball. Looked like maybe Kim's fault, but both are gone. Pham cussing up a storm leaving the field… Kim helped off the field. Concussion protocol is certainly indicated. That was a football hit without helmets … and somehow Kim made the DP. To top it off, Pham went semi-berserk in the dugout creating an incident with one of the coaches.
Good grief. Hope they're both OK.

Pham was calling off Kim, but I'm guessing the language barrier got in the way. Really unfortunate as Pham was really starting to get it turned around at the plate after working his way back. Hopefully it's just frustration after a long road trip.

I don't know much about Pham and his past concerning his emotional status, but he seems to get angry very easy. Breaking his bat in two, muttering under his breath cuss words quite a bit in situations that seem to be directed at teammates, etc...
I like intensity, but not when it becomes detrimental to the team. Does he have a history of being a hot head? Its a bummer, because he was really grooving at the plate.

Phil Nevin was the consummate Padre Hot Head … Pham might be bucking for the title, who knows? Ever since his little incident at Pacers last off season, I've wondered whether he was just an innocent bystander or if maybe some words were exchanged - either inside, outside, or both. The nitty-gritty details never fully came out. Frustration is one thing, but if it owns you, it's not a good thing.
Time will tell…

He had a broken hand, then a broken wrist, then the stabbing incident. Now, he might have a dislocated jaw.

At the risk of being lampooned here, is it possible Pham has some sort of anger management issues? He never seems to smile. I have no inside info, just looking for any kind of answer.

Now, he might have a dislocated jaw. He seemed quite able to let the eff word fly as he was walked off the field…

Anything’s possible…sometimes guys with an attitude are beneficial to a team, other times they’re just a slow growing tumor in the clubhouse. Would like to know more about what happened after he got back to the dugout. Some kind of “incident” reportedly involving Pham and a coach. It was enough of a “highlight“ that it was replayed after coming back from commercial. I’m sure they’ll downplay it as “a heat of the moment” exchange, but if what I saw happening was with a coach, that’s not at all a good look. There are a few lines that just shouldn’t be crossed - if indeed that’s what happened today.

If that's what it takes for him to keep hitting, then ok, as long as it doesn't affect the clubhouse.

This thread is full of counselors. Really not necessary to jump to conclusions when it'll be handled in-house. I would be angry, too, if a guy ran into me and dislocated my face.

You don't have to be a counselor to wonder/know if someone has anger issues, if said individual has shown those tendencies several times.

You don't have to be a counselor to wonder/know if someone has anger issues, if said individual has shown those tendencies several times. The problem is you have no earthly clue what you're talking about. You're speculating, disingenuously and unnecessarily. You don't *know* anything other than what you see. Pham's a guy that plays with a chip on his shoulder because of what he's gone through in life. He has an edge to him. It doesn't make him have "anger issues" - Stuff like this happens in the clubhouse frequently, especially when teams are losing and already on edge during a LONG road trip. It'll be forgotten in a day or two. The rest of this stuff is just fodder. If you had a broken hand, then a broken wrist, then got stabbed, then had a player possibly give you a concussion.....He's frustrated. Any normal, rational human being would be. Here's what I know : Pham's entry into the organization coincided with a dramatic overhaul in strike zone discipline and chase rate. The Padres went from one of the softest clubhouses under Andy Green and culturally morphed into a clubhouse that expected to win. Pham has been lauded for being an integral part of shaping that process.

There's a difference between having a chip on your shoulder, from one who's yelling at teammates out loud, or cursing them under your breath. You should NEVER do that in any demonstrative way, under any circumstances. Sure, it happens, but that doesn't make it an OK thing. He's been caught on camera being frustrated and cursing a fellow player under his breath a few times this year and that's never good. You need to control your emotions towards your teammates. When he broke his bat over his leg, I thought woe!!! but it didn't really raise any red flags to me, until you put it all together. I hope he can control his emotions towards his teammates going forward, because he's an important part of this team.

Or are you just guessing.....again? You've never seen a player break a bat over his knee before? Lol. That's a MASSIVE leap to "man, he has serious anger issues." Here's ten minutes of a compilation of guys doing exactly that. They must all have repressed rage. youtu.be/UXPviGw7ZRs We aren't obligated to be the moral police. We aren't privy to the inner workings of the clubhouse. We have no idea, which is why it's worthless just to throw baseless stuff to the wall to see what sticks. I disagreed with my teammates all the time, especially in moments of heightened frustration. It happens. It doesn't make me or anyone else a bad person for being emotional.

Maybe you missed the part where I said that it didn't raise any red flags to me, but if you put it all together.... Obviously you haven't looked as closely as I have, or you only see what you want to see, but I've seen him on camera, (Mateo for just one other instance, which I've mentioned before) cursing at a fellow teammate during the game, and you didn't need audio. It came clearly off his lips. He wasn't asking what he was doing after the game. He was pissed that Mateo almost collided with him and berated him under his breath for all to see, shaking his head and cursing him. You don't do that. Why do you like to defend that? My friend that was watching with me during that game thought he was a dick for doing that. Couple that with other instances and then today's scene, it's not a far fetched notion that the guy is angry. You don't have see it Ryan, if you don't and you obviously don't.

Why do I like to defend that? Because I'm not one to vilify people I don't understand. I'm not one to pass judgment on someone because it's just not necessary to do so. It's not my place to judge Pham's intent because I just don't know what his intent is. I'm sorry your friend is judgmental, but that doesn't change the narrative much for me. Pham had every right to be upset today - He's worked his ass off to get back and contribute through multiple injuries, a degenerative eye condition and being STABBED. He clearly called Kim off, it was clearly his ball and he could have a concussion as a result. All this "muttering under his breath" and "berating" is subjective nonsense. Maybe I just don't believe in making mountains out of molehills. As stated, this stuff happens in clubhouses all the time. Human beings are flawed. That said, it's obviously not our place to cast stones when we just have no idea what the mechanics of the situation are.
