What happened to Steffon Mitchell? Nothing. Still deciding, but don't think we're interested. Didn't he submit his name into the NBA draft? The Withdraw deadline isn't until July 19th. Key dates to follow * May 22 – July 22: 2021 NBA Playoffs * May 30: Deadline for an early entry player to apply for this year’s Draft (11:59 p.m. ET)
* June 21-27: NBA Draft Combine
* June 22: NBA Draft Lottery * July 19: Deadline for an early entry player to withdraw from the NBA Draft (5 p.m. ET)
* July 29: 2021 NBA Draft * Aug. 2: Teams can begin negotiating with free agents (6 p.m. ET) * Aug. 6: Teams can begin signing free agents (12:01 p.m. ET) * Aug 8-17: MGM Resorts NBA Summer League 2021 (Las Vegas)

Assuming he's still interested in having the option to play college ball next year. I lot of guys who are testing the waters have already committed, just as a back-up (i.e. Remy Martin, etc.).

Jury's still out on this guy. Apparently we're THE team he'll head to IF he decides not to go pro, but apparently he's leaning towards going pro (somewhere) despite not getting a combine invite (either version) & getting little to no interest from NBA teams. That said, he's sounding more & more like a mental case IMO, and has ghosted SDSU of late apparently.

Pro can mean many things; Western & Eastern Europe, Asia, Oceania, Canada, South America and of course the NBA and G-League. The world is a big place, when you say "he's leaning towards going pro (somewhere)" are you saying its U.S. based basketball?

No, I added (somewhere) because it's pretty obvious it won't be in the US, given he's received zero interest from NBA franchises. He had 3 college finalists, but believe he removed 1 & 1 filled, so the latest had us as his #1 choice if he doesn't go pro. But again, the fact he's gone dark is probably a sign he's signing somewhere for $.

Ah yes a mental headcase because he’s being indecisive on one of the biggest decisions of his life

Ah yes a mental headcase because he’s being indecisive on one of the biggest decisions of his life No, because a) he's gone completely dark on the Aztecs despite b) getting absolutely no interest from the NBA. He's not getting workouts, per the Aztec staff, so he's sitting on a decision between playing in EU v SDSU, which he's said is his #1 college choice all while ignoring the SDSU staff. If he was mulling over several colleges and/or getting NBA interest I'd get taking your time. He's not.

San Diego Union Tribune - July 6th, 2021
Steffon Mitchell staying pro
"...SDSU has one remaining scholarship for the 2021-22 season. One person who apparently won’t be using it is Boston College senior Steffon Mitchell, who had both provisionally entered the NBA Draft and the NCAA transfer portal.
The 6-foot-8 defensive specialist reportedly had settled on SDSU over offers from Utah and Minnesota if he opted to use his final year of collegiate eligibility. But the NCAA deadline to withdraw from the draft is Wednesday, and a source close to Mitchell said he’s staying pro despite not being invited to either the G League or NBA combines.
Other players have popped into the transfer portal in recent weeks, but the Aztecs are expected to stand pat for now.
Most of the roster has returned to campus for the second session of summer school and can begin limited workouts with the coaching staff this week..."

I think Mitchell may be making a mistake. Hope it all turns out well for him.

I think Mitchell may be making a mistake. Hope it all turns out well for him. I find it hard to say a kid who has graduated and has a chance to earn money playing ball is making a mistake! If he was a sophomore with few pro prospects maybe, but the guy went to college for 4 years. Not everyone wants to attend classes for 5 years! It's not like he's going to jump up the draft boards by returning to college. At this point he is who he is.
