When did he lose composure today? Never saw that. Being frustrated when your mechanics are not synced is normal. Here you go again trying to insert some kind of weird emotional assumption. He got squeezed on a TON of calls on the corners and the Astros smash lefty fastballs, #1 in the league. This was pretty predictable, given the matchup and the circumstances. Yes, we need Snell to be better. No, it's not time to freak out. It was planned to piggyback him and Musgrove. They didn't plan on piggy backing Musgrove that early. What's weird Ryan is that you can't see it, but I get. Overly frustrated causes you to lose your composure mentally, thus the getting behind hitters, not hitting your spots, etc... They did, that's exactly what the definition of a piggyback is. It was planned last night, as an organization. And Musgrove likely saved the bullpen in a massive way, heading into a series in unpredictable Wrigley Field. I didn't see Snell lose any composure today - He seemed frustrated with his mechanics, opening up too much and missing outside of the zone. What's really important is he still has the stuff - The raw strikeout rate is elite, the velocity is where it should be. It becomes a matter of decreasing his changeup usage and just throwing more strikes.

Don't know if it's a mental thing now, but he needs to fix it, and quick like. Also, I know what a piggy back situation is, but from the announcers, Tingler, to my wife and everybody I know, knew that they wanted Snell to go more than based on the usage of the bullpen, etc.... I know Musgrove can come in and pitch multiple innings, but it would've been nice for Snell to do well forhis confidence, etc.. let Musgrove only pitch a couple, and then close it out.

Since Snell got yanked in last season's much ballyhooed WS game 6 vs L.A., he's gotten exactly 4 outs - total - after the 5th inning according to Joe Sheehan.
It's all in Snell's head now. He was simply pounded today.

In a perfect world, sure. But as soon as Snell showed any kind of struggle, the plan that was in place already was used. It actually will help a lot in this upcoming series. The pen should largely be rested now; Adams and a couple others desperately needed a day off just to reset the clock.

Definitely saved the bullpen.

No worries, he'll make a quality start next outing.
Maybe.

Blake has really pulled out all the stops so far tonight. His 7th inning was great to see. Even after giving up a hit - which a little more hustle might've gotten closer to - he held onto the ball and mowed the next three down.

There was no chance Pham was catching that ball, but his decision to try and play up on it was an unfortunate one. Whiffed. Glad Blake was able to navigate around it. The offense though, as a whole....Woof.

You could almost see the wheels turning with the no hitter, if he should dive for it or not to save the no-no. Only real time I disagreed with the sequencing from Rivas.

Yes, he got in a little bit of no man's land. Happens. Fortunately it didn't hurt. Let's close it out now.

Might've been worried about landing on his chin, too. Who knows? That's why I said that a little hustle might've gotten closer to it - not that he could've caught it. And then … well we all know what happened… Pham's got his own thread if people really want to dissect it.
