More nonsense behind the catcher is making life tough for Snell in the fourth inning … and then 1 - 2 - 3 DP!! Shutout intact!
The brainfart for a balk didn't help in inning five, and then the walls caved in. Whether that was his fault or not, someone clearly wasn't where they should've been and now it's 3-0 because he can't get the pitcher, deGrom, out. Good grief. Gone again without getting through the fifth inning.
More than two months into the season now, and it's getting to be a real bad habit with this guy. While he looked good again in the early innings, he's not getting extended into games. Whether that's hitters getting settled in or him losing placement - or both - it's got to be a concern. He's losing games, not winning them.

That's your opinion. They aren't helping, that's for sure.

No, it's not. A competent offense scores more than two runs. Snell pitched well enough to keep the team in the game, despite getting squeezed by the umpire that led to excess pitches being thrown, while the best pitcher in the game got calls five and six inches off the plate. The reality is the offense is struggling to produce in situations right now. They've scored more than four runs once in June. If you hold a team to three runs, you should win.

… the reality is that Snell can't get past the 4th inning without blowing it. Who knows how many more runs would've scored if he hadn't been yanked when he was. As it turned out, both of his runners came in. Yeah, yeah, yeah … the hitters suck too.

If your offense can't score three runs with any regularity, that's on the offense, not the staff.

Snell pitched well. Just lost his release point late and was given zero margin for error. Looking forward to his next start. Musgrove v Stroman should be another pitchers duel.

4.97 5.72 ERA. … That’s the new reality.

4.97 ERA. … That’s the reality. Snell has underperformed. He's done better as of late, but he's still underperformed, especially with all the advantages that are out there for the pitcher's nowadays.

This maybe an unpopular opinion, but He is not using foreign substances as much based on what his spin rate. I think its effecting him, and his control. I think perhaps he is trying to learn to throw without it.

4.97 ERA. … That’s the reality. So today Musgrove is at fault for giving up three runs, I would assume.

False equivalence… and when you assume…

False equivalence… and when you assume… Not a false equivalence. You blamed the pitching for the offense failing to produce. Consistency is key.

We'll see how the team responds after Snell gives up 3 runs in the first inning. Nothing like tossing your team into a ditch right off the bat. The Stink-o-Meter is already high… but it is Coors Field. So anything can happen - considering the Padres current offense though, it might just be another Padres pipe dream.
Was there even one swinging strike in the first inning that didn't make contact? Gotta make better pitches, Blake.
Thanks to a few Padre homeruns, Snell is back in the game.
Sure hope he can hold the Rockies back after his own Rocky start, but apparently, he can't. Can he make it past the 4th inning? Can he make better pitches?
Well, that's it for Snell today. 3-1/3 innings, 7 earned runs, 9 hits. Another bona fide stinker. He looked lost for most of those 3-1/3 innings, too.
Cy Young? Feel sorry for the dude. He's just not cutting the proverbial mustard. ERA now up close to 6.00. Wow.

id say he has trouble gripping the ball. He'd better get a grip on something, somewhere, and soon. We're less than two weeks from being halfway through the season. Already… Despite his adjustments to a new league and opponents (or a lack of them), his 5.72 ERA sure is not what he was brought in for.

I know we sent Weathers down so that he can start in AAA, but I'll take Weathers on a short pitch count over Snell. Let Snell figure out how to grip the ball without foreign substances at AAA. The bottom line is that he can't locate his pitches.
