The best thing about my pal Ryan is he can always spin it to show you why the Padres player is incredible.
Until they are traded, and it's "Meh, he wasn't a fit here because ______".
(See: Taylor Trammell)
LOL! JK bud!

"Under California’s color-coded coronavirus guidelines, teams based in counties in the red tier can host 20 percent capacity. Next week, San Diego County is widely expected to improve from purple to red. Accordingly, the Padres are preparing to welcome about 10,000 fans on Opening Day, CEO Erik Greupner said Tuesday.
“I think it’ll be the loudest 20 percent-capacity crowd you’ve ever heard in Petco Park history,” Greupner said.
There could be more buzz down the road. On Tuesday, Greupner described a full-capacity crowd before the end of the season as a “distinct possibility.” The state has not outlined a scenario in which stadiums can host 100 percent capacity, but constantly evolving regulations, improving COVID-19 metrics and vaccine distribution have provided reasons for optimism."

Is it really spin, when you're just going off industry consensus and personal evalutions? Shrug.

No, I'm the guy that has followed his career since the day he was drafted and knows more about him probably (shamefully) than 99% of people who comment on one inning of observation, rather than his entire professional career. Choosing to be objective is good here. He's 22, hasn't thrown a competitive minor league game since August of 2019 in AA and is still adjusting to new mechanics that have been implemented by the team. Last season, virtually every hot pitching prospect (Howard, Pearson, Patiño, etc) universally struggled to adjust in an abbreviated season against big league hitters. Asking for consistency from a 22 year old who has pitched twice in spring training and has thrown 21 innings above A ball is fine. I'm looking at a far bigger picture. There's zero doubt he can get big league outs right now, today. I'd prefer if he spent a month in AA to start this season, but with Lamet likely on the shelf and 24 games in 25 days to start the season, that may not be a luxury the team can afford. Sidenote : He's the best pitching prospect in baseball for a reason. Overreacting negatively to glorified scrimmages doesn't change that. What you want to see is a progression from outing to outing. He was clearly better today than his first time out. I choose to look at the 8 swinging strikes today on 3 different pitches against hitters like Charlie Blackmon and Trevor Story, while knowing he has to get his fastball in the zone more consistently. He'll be absolutely fine and one of the best pitchers in baseball in the next couple of years. I don't think I've been more bullish on a prospect before. I love the kid. I would say just a couple of things, that we have spoke about before: 1. It's not too concerning, just...whats the word...disappointing? That he has not been able to get through a couple of innings thus far. That being said, I completely agree with everything else you said. 2. His stuff is freak nasty good 3. Many of us saw Gore a year or two ago as a fast tracked uber prospect the likes of a young Kershaw, King Felix, and others I have previously cited who broke the bigs at age 20, 21. I was really thinking 2021 was the target for him, and I've read countless scouts and writers who pegged 2021 as his season -- back in 2019. But, all prospects develop at a certain pace. I'd love to see him contributing out of the pen as a super weapon or even starting sometime in 2021. I sure hope so. If he had an actual minor league season last year, he would have been up last season. He was primed to throw 140-150 innings (at least) and was well on his way after having good success (minus one fluky start) in one of the toughest pitching environments in the country. Team's been adamant that they want him as a starter, so I don't see any path to a bullpen role. His stuff plays up better over longer stints and I wouldn't screw around with his development. He's going to be up in short order this year, perhaps even opening day. Much depends on the health around him. The results likely won't be dominant right away, but he's clearly one of the best six arms.

Shrug. aztecmesa.proboards.com/post/1141385/threadYes, I liked him as a human being (GREAT person, highly recommend following him) and believed that the Padres had made some mechanical changes to his swing that resulted in some short-term positive changes. However, he has trouble with hitting average fastballs, which is usually a really bad sign for a hitter. Buddy Reed Syndrome. And for a playoff/World Seried caliber team, your regulars are a pretty big deal. He'll get a chance in Seattle on a rebuilding team.

His offspeed stuff did look good. But he was abusing the worms in front of the plate in the 2nd inning. I don't think Gore breaks camp with the Padres. Get him to the minors ASAP. He needs work. Loved the "abusing the worms" analogy. Did you make that up? Nice!!! I did. Too much free time on my hands, I suppose.

Gore needs to pitch in games. Somewhere. The sooner the minor leagues start, the better.

Time for the Padres to see how he responds to some major league hitters.

It’s looking like Gore will be starting the season in the minors. The Padres said he needs to work on his control issues, look for a June or July call up.

The Padres made some interesting choices, not sure I like a few of them.
