Looks like neither Lamet or Gore made the opening day roster. But...I suspect one of them (probably Lamet, IMO) will be back with the big club very soon. From what I heard, Lamet's still 3-4 weeks away. The Padres made some interesting choices, not sure I like a few of them. Lamet does have to stretch out. Who takes Paddack's spot? (As I don't see him lasting very long in the rotation) Weathers, perhaps?

I'd rather just sign an arm at that point to eat innings, rather than slot Weathers into the rotation. Gore's the first man up, barring something unforseen.

Thoughts on yesterday's outing? Needs to locate the changeup for strikes and get more vertical movement on the fastball. Thought the velocity was fine.

I've been surprised that so many MLB scouting systems still have Gore rated so highly given how little he has advanced over the last year. I know that covid changed parameters but still, other big prospects have come up and been ok to good.

Anyone else excited to see how the kid pitches manana? -- What’s the timetable on calling up MacKenzie Gore? — Ray C. "The Padres plan to promote Gore only when they deem him ready, but they might feel compelled to call up their top pitching prospect a tad early. Only two starters, Darvish and Musgrove, have pitched six innings in a game this season, and a third, Snell, has yet to go deep. Meanwhile, Lamet remains a question mark, 21-year-old Ryan Weathers recently returned from his own injury scare, and Chris Paddack is on the injured list with an unspecified condition. The bullpen has been excellent but can’t sustain its current workload — San Diego’s 138 relief innings are the most in the majors. The Padres need Gore to be ready, and preferably soon. To earn a call-up, the lefty needs to display improved fastball command and more consistency with his secondary pitches. Gore has struggled without real competition since the end of the 2019 minor-league season. He is scheduled to make his Triple-A debut Friday, and the Padres believe a return to game settings will be a significant boon for the highly competitive 22-year-old. There’s also some thought that Gore might benefit by toning down his complicated delivery; a few talent evaluators have suggested that his movements are a bit too mechanical for someone so athletic." theathletic.com/2567663/2021/05/06/a-disappointing-padres-offense-dinelson-lamet-expectations-and-mackenzie-gores-timetable/

Trevor Rogers Miami Ian Anderson Atl Devin Williams Mlw Alzolay Chic Sanchez Miami The first two, yes, albeit very limited sample sizes. Williams is a pure reliever, so that's a pretty faulty comparison. Alzolay's 26, which is a monstrous age gap. Sixto's hurt (again) and hasn't thrown this season at all.

Sixto's hurt (again) and hasn't thrown this season at all. Ryan Weathers San Diego Another really small sample size and Weathers is now battling through another case of dead arm, so far unable to carry a starter's workload. The list of guys that really struggled to some degree in 2020 is a little longer... Nate Pearson Spencer Howard Casey Mize Tarik Skubal Deivi Garcia Justin Dunn Michael King Kyle Wright Jesus Luzardo Kris Bubic Bryse Wilson And so on and so on forth. The team wants Gore to come up to stay up. His development needs to be pristine.

Crap. Forgot they were off on Wednesdays. Me too. I had the writeups last night for MadFriars and I got the Elsinore score wrong. Whoops.
