You absolutely can, like I illustrated above. The average voter doesn't pay attention. If you think the election is swinging based on the Gaza conflict...I can only laugh. There are so many factors in play here.

Mitch McConnell, three years ago.
Mitch McConnell today? Endorsed the same person for president.

The amount of "never Trump" voters continues to grow, even in deep red territory. Polls won't tell you everything, but Trump has underperformed expectations in virtually every state thus far. Haley wouldn't endorse him when dropping out today, in fact, there's even a movement now to get Haley voters to vote for *Biden.* He'll continue to be overrepresented while Biden continues to be underrepresented, very much the same theme as 2020.

Just because people oppose something (in March) doesn't mean they'll oppose it in November....nor does it mean they are going to vote against Biden. Once the ceasefire happens, it'll be a non-issue.

According to the New York Times/Siena poll, 97% of those who voted for the Orange Man in 2020 intend to do so again in 2024, compared with 83% for Joey. 10% of Joey’s former supporters say that they will switch to Orange. Joey outpolled Orange in 2020 by nearly 4.5 points but now trails him by 2.1, a 6.6-point swing.

A few issues, though: The economics professor that was interviewed said "Trump voters will show up no matter what." Except in 2020...they didn't. Non-voters back Trump by a significant margin, but they don't vote. Biden's lack of popularity and age are obvious major factors. Then there's this, also from the NYT: "There might be a kernel of good news for Mr. Biden contained in his extreme weakness among less engaged voters: His campaign can hope they’re simply not paying close attention, and might return to his side once voters tune into the race. My colleague Claire Cain Miller, for instance, interviewed a voter who said abortion was the most important issue, but blamed Mr. Biden for the loss of abortion rights in America. That’s exactly the kind of voter a campaign can hope to sway." (This illustrates my earlier point that the average voter isn't really paying attention to key issues.)

"I love the poorly educated"....for a reason. Not the point I was trying to make - The average voter who doesn't follow political news comprises a lot of the overall electorate. The discussion thus far has been focused on things that I don't personally see as swaying an election - Both candidates aren't very popular, despite what the NYT says and it's likely just going to come down to what party establishes their base to go out and vote. Trump's base tends to be weighted more heavily than the numbers actually indicate, as many of his non-voters aren't captured.

If you polled 100 people randomly from various parts of the country, I would bet less than half could tell you what Roe v. Wade was or who ultimately ended it.

When my European relatives would come over here and mingle with the general population, they were often shocked at the knowledge base / education level of Americans. My daughter went to Poway High, part of the renowned Poway School District. One day she brought a friend over and I was talking to her. We were on a subject and I mentioned that we had dropped a nuclear bomb on Japan during WW2. The glazed look she gave me told me all I needed to know. Idiocracy, the B Movie, was right..and we are most likely f****d.

This is what we're actually fighting against.
There's a line between genuinely not knowing and basic ignorance. These people tend to be exaggerated in the polls, though.

Another hugely important thing that's not getting discussed: RNC leadership has given the green light to have its funding used to pay Trump's legal bills. This means the GOP will be at a sizable funding disadvantage going forward. Money tends to matter in these things pretty significantly.
