Maybe a deep run and we land one or more of our top prospects

with the Covid rule will guess some guys may wait until to see who is coming back to schools - giving them an extra season .
Have they set parameters on when guys have to make a decision to take the extra year , or leave to go Pro or even transfer
While we are at it - also be looking at if Dutcher will stay or go to Minnesota

Get busy because you have a lot of ruts in the road to fill.

I hope our prospective recruits don't have TV sets.

I hope our prospective recruits don't have TV sets. Dumb. Our highest rated recruit to this day committed the day after we lost one of our biggest games ever. I guess not completely shockingly, kids have more perspective and are better than AMesa-ers.

So the top of this thread said they needed 6 recruits. D Johnson committed, now what? After last night's thrashing it's obvious SDSU needs more height and scoring.

That had nothing to do with the loss, if anything we beat Syracuse down low. Syracuse got ridiculously hot and we missed shots we made all years, sucks but it happens. Of course scoring is needed with Schakel and Matt moving on. I fully expect us to land at least 3 transfers

Buddyboy went off after Gomez and Seiko gave up 5-12" on him in height when the guarded him (horrible coaching honestly - I love Dutch but that is all on him). Even when buddyboy wasn't getting the ball, their random forwards would take our lunch money in isolation when Gomez/Seiko/Butler guarded them on a switch. They put up 46 points in the second half on us - We got thrashed by our lack of length! If we didn't have Pulliam it would have been 10x worse - his length and active hands on D got us 3 steals, and he can actually switch with his longer arms.

I think Dutcher needs to add a JR/SR transfer at the wing, who can score and get to the ft line.

So the top of this thread said they needed 6 recruits. D Johnson committed, now what? After last night's thrashing it's obvious SDSU needs more height and scoring. My concern is... short guards is what we have recruited. This is our future. We recruited short 1 and 2 guards. Butler and Dinwiddie. Very talented obviously. But this will be a weakness with next years team as well, against a long P5 squad. Butler at PG is very athletic, quick, he can get steals and pester the ball - and it's okay to give up height here. But Dinwiddie, who can Flat Out Shoot just like Gomez, is 6'1". He's going to be matched up with a Buddy, a Jimmer... 6'5" players. This weakness is not going to go away. If we are going to recruit short, quick guards - we have to play more pressure defense (ala. West Virginia or Louisville). We can't just sit back and let them shoot over us. Butler looks great hounding the opposing PG full court. Instead of flirting with full court pressure, we need to actually use it frequently if we are going to continue to use undersized lineups with quick guards. And also, if we are playing 6'-6'1" guards, we need to have more forward length. Having Schakel and Mitchell undersized at the SF/PF made our lack of length at the guard position arguably worse. With all that being said, I think that we really need length at the forward position next year that can also make 3's. Having Arop/Johnson/Mensah as our 3/4/5 is actually a lot of length for a starting unit, but it obviously hurts our half court game when they brick 3's. Again, this is another argument for amping up the full court pressure - to get easy buckets off of turnovers. to We really could use a long SF and PF that can make 3's and get rebounds.

For the past decade we've had great athletes and with our focus on "defense first" I can't understand why we never put a press strategy in. Especially now since so many of our guys can hit the three.

Buddy hit ridiculously tough shots against Seiko he will make 20% of the time, he definitely abused Gomez on the few times they matched up. We were built off of our shooting, and we had a poor shooting game while Syracuse hit everything they usually won't. Also Syracuse made 11 2 point FG's the whole game, 4 of which were layups/dunks. They won because of ridiculous shooting.

They really need to find a healthy Polee type. He wasn't perfect but he sure could show up when needed. I hope he's happy somewhere!

Even with the short guards we've had a top defense the last 2 years, whether it was feagin or Gomez at the 2. 1 fluky shooting game should not change the strategy, it would be nice to land a wing that can really shoot, defend, pass, and is long but those guys are 5 stars and we need to chose.

Dutcher would be well served to recruit/find Polee and Dakarai Allen clones. You can't teach 6'7" defense.

Please not Steadman, no, just no. Soft, weak D, and a terrible attitude. Horrible body language during games, quit on Montana before the season was over. There will be plenty of others, pass on this softy Dutch, please.
