40 million cases of influenza and 16,000 deaths and counting in the U.S. this year. If you don't believe this political, you just don't get it. "If you don't know, now you know."

WHO has already come out and said the mortality rate is worse than influenza. what more do you want. if 40 million get Coronavirus, how many deaths do you think that will equate to? do the math....nm let me help you out. 40 million at the WHO mortality rate of 3.4 percent is 1,360,000.

Trump doesn’t believe the WHO numbers cause he had a “hunch”. Science just doesn’t get through to these types of people. The fact that this is 20-30 times more lethal than the seasonal flu is apparently media hysteria even though the numbers from China (and the world’s leading doctors) back it up. They’d rather believe a guy who lies on a daily basis, has zero science or medical background, and by his own admission has no idea how many people died from the flu each year.

No one knows what the mortality rate of this particular coronavirus is. It's obviously higher where the outbreak occurred in China. But in other countries it's extremely low. People are just guessing and throwing crap out they know nothing about. Because at this point, it's all speculation. Kind of like the stock market. Guess I better go out and stock up on toilet paper and masks. 😉

There’s clearly a nuanced gray area here. Yes this is a pandemic and a horrifically contagious disease we should we worried about, but it’s also OBVIOUSLY being used by politicians and media to sling blame for something that is absurdly hard to contain and not even fully understood yet. People always take advantage of a crises to push their bull$#!+ narrative and shift blame to their enemies.

They’d rather believe a guy who lies on a daily basis, has zero science or medical background, and by his own admission has no idea how many people died from the flu each year. Coronavirus is clearly infecting way more people than are being reported because the only people that go to the doctor are those that are showing severe symptoms. There are clear reports of mild and no symptoms cases making up potentially 70% of all cases when we don’t even have those numbers in the system. If you can’t understand that’s what Trump is talking about then you’re in your own bubble of preconceived thought that isn’t a very scientific way of viewing the world either. The death rates may in fact be much lower than 2-3% because it’s likely the bulk of cases are unreported and mild. This doesn’t mean the issue isn’t a terrible crisis because .5% of the entire world is a ton of deaths, but the point remains that it’s likely that WHO doesn’t have the full picture because they are only using confirmed cases. Also, there’s an entirely different aspect to this having to do with WHO being involved in the world bank pandemic bonds that were sold a few years ago and making the bet that there will not be a pandemic. Those bonds vest in July of this year, and it’s not in their financial interest to be frank and clear about this thing because declaring a pandemic would mean they lose their bet. Why blindly trust the WHO just because they are a large organization?

Maybe you should run for office. First you call a leading Dr a stooge and now it's Trump. Noooooo, the president doesn't have leading Dr's advising him. And 20 to 30 times more lethal? Fear monger much? Baaaaaaaaa

That’s a death rate of 0.04%, for this coronavirus to be 20 times more lethal it would need a death rate of 0.8%. I know math isn’t your strong suit but you would have a pretty difficult time finding anyone with knowledge on the topic saying the rate is below 0.8%.

I stated 16,000 deaths and counting. No one knows where those numbers will end up. 2018-19 flu season killed 61,000 and 2017-18 nearly 80,000 in the U.S. According to you, there is going to be 1.2 to 2.4 million deaths in the U.S. from the new coronavirus this year. Better head to Walmart and stock up. Bye Felicia!!

I think the point is your are correct not to fear the disease from the standpoint of getting it and dying. However, you should fear what this might do to the economy. They just announced they are moving the new James Bond movie scheduled to open in April to November, because of the fear of the virus. The expectation from the studio is that people are not going to go to movies in a month when this fully spreads. They are cancelling conventions in the Seattle area right now. The Seattle markets are like a ghost town right now. That is the danger. People not going out, not going to movies, not going to concerts, shows, baseball games, stores, RESTAURANTS. That will have a massive negative effect on the economy. People will start getting laid off and it goes from there. Do you live here? Have you looked for yourself? This is simply NOT true... I live and work in the Seattle area. I was stuck in the usual traffic getting to the city yesterday, could not find parking (as usual), walked around Westlake and was surrounded by the normal massive throng of people crushed together there. Later I was in Pioneer Square (a genuine cesspool of humanity and the right place to avoid during a plague) and it was very much the same. Seattle and King County are run by morons, but the city is no ghost town. Just going by what I read. www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/seattle-ghost-town-residents-face-uncertainty-growing-coronavirus-outbreak-n1148941

We are three weeks from the sweet 16. LA has what, 15 cases now? Kinda feels like there’s still a decent chance they allow the crowds but I think it might be a photo finish on that decision.

Not a good ratio at this point in time!

Yeah it takes about two weeks to recover on average though so that number should jump quickly. it takes 2 weeks, of showing WITHOUT symptoms while under quarantine to recover. it can take literally months for that process to cycle through. case in point, 1 patient in San Diego that was one of the first identified cases, still has not recovered, and its been more than a month

I'm willing to bet that the media is going to start lumping regular flu deaths into the new coronavirus death toll. Any takers? No one including the CDC or W.H.O. which is just a giant organization should be releasing any type of mortality rates. Because they don't know!! Remember, the bird flu was supposed to kill 50 million. This is absolutely political and some of worst fear mongering I have ever seen.
As I posted in political forum where this thread belongs, the director for the CDC told the American people that the coronavirus COULD remain in the United States this year and beyond. But he also stated that the risks are extremely low. Completely different than what the media is telling people.
