Ladies & gentlemen, now that the undefeated Aztec basketball team just got by Wyoming last night and is now 20-0 our next game is on the road in everyone's favorite town, Las Vegas! And, why did I put in the title as, "Toughest Game?" Easy. Because, UNLV is second only to us in the conference standings at 6-1, and the way they are playing right now is more like a badger protecting her babies! We already know what they did to Utah State last month, and the poor Aggies have still not recovered. Yes, we have been very fortunate playing in Las Vegas. We just won two games there over Thanksgiving, and we have won many games in the MW Tournament where it is like a second home to us. But, this is probably one of the best Rebel squads we have seen in about a decade or more. That is why I ask if this could be one of the toughest games for us so far? I know we had a last second, last shot victory over San Jose St. on Dec. 8th, but this team is considerably better than that Spartan team. And since they will be playing at home that makes our job even tougher. So, do we have enough firepower and determination to continue our win streak? We'll see on Sunday! Go Aztecs!!!

if they beat Nevada tonight - game could be for first place and they will be fired up as will the crowd - their coach after his challenging his team has them playing well together
Going to try to get Yanni in foul trouble
Game of defense and rebounding

Injuries may be a big problem for us.

The only easy day game was yesterday the previous game. We won, but Wyoming did put up more of a battle than they did in Laramie. But, from now on the next 3 to 5 games could be the most difficult for us the rest of this conference season. I just thought that since we have had our way with the Rebels for more than a decade that this game could prove to be a much more difficult challenge than usual.

yes going to need guys to step up - understand we need help with rebounding and defense .
read quotes from Dutcher - going to need all the guys including the guards to help on the boards - also on defense
guys can earn the PT with solid play on D and hitting the boards - starts with practice and hope it continues on the court . Do their roles and not try to do things out of their comfort zone - team players .

The next game is always the toughest game, especially when you have not lost yet. As for UNLV, we need to really defend the ball with pressure and rebound. UNLV has turned the ball over at times with their style of play, and if we limit them to one shot on O it will bode well for our chances to win.

Should be a good challenge for the team. I miss the old UNLV/UNM/BYU rivalry games.

UNLV is the anti-Nevada... They can’t shoot the three and they don’t defend the three well. They are fabulous OR team and overall rebounding team. They turn it over a ton and don’t create a lot of turnovers. A lot of their offense, like USU, comes from the line. In general they are just average on defense and offense and must rebound and get to the line in order to compete, but are super athletic... I feel like an older, smart team that can play defense and make shots should handle UNLV.

The Rebels played New Mexico at Thomas and Mack last week and buried them. It was like they put the Lobos in a headlock and made them cry “Uncle!”
The Aztecs are going to need Mitchell to bring the Defense in the paint. This Rebel team has been beaten 9 times this year, find the holes in their Defense and make shots.

New Mexico was missing their two best players and Utah State still had Quetta and Merrill a bit hobbled. The rest of their conference schedule is way harder than their first 7 games. I’ll start believing in them if they beat Nevada tonight.

T.J. Otzelberger seems to have lit a fire under their collective ass, benching guys who don't give effort, and they are playing much better. People are finally starting to show up to their games at the T&M. I expect there will be a good crowd Sunday and it will be a tough game for the Aztecs.

For the future of the MWC, it will take teams like SDSU, Utat St., UNLV, New Mexico to step up and recreate what once was an exciting conference. For now, we are taken down for our wins, and destroyed by our losses. Somehow we need to change the perception of the quality of our basketball. SDSU should take the lead in that evolution - starting with winning the NC this year.

And I remember when the SDSU-Unlv at Viejas East would sell out at 18,000+. This game should draw 10,000+ with a lot of AZTECS FANS.

I think we continue to find ways to win, go Aztecs!

I expect that they probably learned from WY to hit our bigs very hard in the paint. One WY player seemed to laugh every time he got called for a hard foul; which was apparently part of their strategy.

One WY player seemed to laugh every time he got called for a hard foul; which was apparently part of their strategy. Yes, their #10 (? - I think it was him) got the flagrant on Yanni on a steal and fast break. Narain ended up being a foul magnet with 3 fouls in less than 2 minutes with the extra attention while he was in. Yanni shows the ability to roll with the physicality while Narain still needs more practice in learning how to do so. That's also how Arop got the shoulder knock. There were some physical moments in last night's game that didn't occur in the first WHY-0/Aztecs contest. Refs were no help.
