There are pros and cons to both, I am sure some will put the cart before the horse: citing how #1 seeds win more often than 2s (hit: thats mostly because they are better teams not because of their designated seed). But there is some advantage in regards to opponent that is afforded to being a #1 over #2.
PROS to #1 in Mid West We'd probably still play opening round games in California, and would have an easier opening week in regards to opponents. If seeds hold we'd have an easier path in regards to opponents throughout.
PROS to #2 in West We'd be playing close to home in the second week (borderline home games) and homecourt is HUGE. Outside of the first game (and 15s arent that much better than 16s) there is no guarantee we'd play a harder path (and may actually have it easier).

The sweet 16 and elite 8 games will be like home games if we’re in the west.

Embrace the target. #1 seed.

I'd give my left nut to be 1 seed anywhere!

A 1-seed means we would likely either draw Butler in their backyard in the Midwest or Baylor in their backyard in the South in the regional finals.
Give me a 2-seed in OUR backyard any day of the week, and twice on Thursday and Saturday.

Honestly, I'd take a #1 seed - because that means we are undefeated going in to the tournament. Also, it would be historic and something that will never happen again. As you said, we would also play the first two game in Sacramento (either way really - as long as we are a top 4 seed).

If we end up undefeated including the MWC tournament, it’s hard to imagine we’d not be tops in the west

Since I consider SDSU and Gonzaga to be two of the top teams in the country this year, I would want that potential meeting to be in the Final Four in Atlanta. It would be great for SDSU and Gonzaga to be no. 1 seeds. Who should ESPN send to cover the SDSU-Nevada game feb. 29?

I'm hoping for undefeated and assuming Gonzaga will stumble at least once.

Why is 1-Seed in the West not an option? 😎

I'm hoping for undefeated and assuming Gonzaga will stumble at least once. I dunno. I watched parts of the Zags/Zoobs game last night. I just don't see them losing to anyone in the extremely lame WCC (made even more lame by the much easier travel, lower elevation and smaller venues than the MGC.) They have three away games over the next 10 days against a few top-tier teams in the WCC: St. Mary's, Santa Clara and USF. So we'll see. But, seriously, don't hold your breath.

I’m hoping zags stumble at BYU on 2/22. If we are undefeated and zags lose there when we won there, I’d think we would have a great shot at the 1 seed in the west.

Maybe they don't lose but if Michigan keeps losing (the Zag's only loss) and teams like Arizona, Washington and Oregon start losing (the Zag's best wins), their metrics will start to drop them. They already lost a signature win (at the time) against North Carolina. Washington is up to 7 losses and Oregon barely beat them yesterday.
We need Creighton and Iowa to win a lot to help ours. Of course, BYU beating the Zags in Provo would be great for us in both areas.

Yes. Don't care which one, I'd be insanely happy with either.

Yes. Don't care which one, I'd be insanely happy with either. This. I also think Gonza-gag will lose at least once, if not twice on the road before the season ends. No. 1 in the West is still there for us if we keep winning. As far as being a No. 1 or a No. 2, I think I'd rather stay close to home. Talent is so spread out in basketball this year that we're going to face a stiff challenge on the Saturday-Sunday game no matter our seed, so I'd prefer to be closer, fresher and before fans who will root for us.

The way things are setting up for Gonzaga they’ll get a well-deserved no.1 in the West. I would happily take the no.2 and see you all in Los Angeles.

The WCC is in quality like the A-10/MWC. The reason Gonzaga will steamroll through the conference is because they have a incredibly good deep team.
