Yes, but we tag teamed Garza with Wetzell and Mensah. They both had fouls to give and rotated in and out. Had we only Wetzell, it might've been Wetzell spending a big chunk of the game on the bench, not Garza. We really need Mensah to take a trip to Lourdes for a miracle cure. Or maybe he could go see Miracle Max. Garza was also limited by foul trouble and played only 25 minutes. He couldn't bull-in-the-china-shop everything like he normally does on offense. In MM, the refs often swallow their whistles more so he'll be right in his element.

Utah is down to Washington by 4 points (28-24) at halftime. They need to figure out how to win again.

Utah somehow managed to pull out a win due to some incredibly stupid play by Washington down the stretch... I don't think they scored a FG for the last several minutes, but got a ton of FT's, including 4 plus the ball out of bounds on a "late hit" dead ball technical by Jaden after a foul on another player. And to finish things off with a flourish, the game ended with a Washington player getting an offensive foul while going for a last shot win, handing Utah a 67-66 win.

That's at least 4 technicals on Jaden this season.

A very good “off” day for the Aztecs.
Past opponent wins: Utah BYU Grand Canyon
Key loses: Michigan State (Sagarin #6) Ohio St. (Kenpom #14) (I’ll even throw Liberty’s second loss in here)

Long Island Univ won and is 1.5 games out of 1st in their league, the NEC.
It's going to be interesting if they really let 12 teams from the Big 10 like many are suggesting. So many are going to end up with double digit losses, but they will be Q1 losses so they will all be allowed as they all just keep beating up on each other. Hardly anyone in that league wins road games.

I only watched the last 4 minutes and let me say if I was a Washington fan I’d be absolutely livid at the refs. Sometimes refs give an extra or 2 extra iffy calls to the home team but this was beyond insane, Utah was handed the win by them.

These are the games that make you wonder if a ref had an incentive in it. It's either that, or they're just horrible at their job. Sheesh.

Sometimes refs give an extra or 2 extra iffy calls to the home team but this was beyond insane, Utah was handed the win by them. I didn't watch the game and can't find any video of McDanial's technical. I guess he hit a player on the side of the head after the play was over? His coach sounds fed up. “I don’t think there’s anything going on. I just don’t know why the hell that play is made,” Hopkins said when asked about McDaniels’ propensity to collect technicals. “I don’t know. I don’t know if if it’s a game play. He’s the nicest guy in the league. I don’t get it. I don’t get it. But you just can’t make that play.” “This one is hard to swallow because we had the game,” Hopkins said. “You can’t have self-inflicted wounds. You can’t hit a guy on the side of the head and expect to win. After a Husky foul was called elsewhere and play had ended, McDaniels took a roundhouse swat to block a continuing shot and drew a dead-ball technical. He not only connected with the ball but also with Mikael Jantunen's head, sending the Utah freshman from Finland crashing to the floor. "You can't hit a guy on the head," UW coach Mike Hopkins bemoaned on his radio show. McDaniels' actions created a six-point play, all coming on free throws emanating from the personal foul, the technical foul and retained ball possession. It didn't win the game for Utah, which pulled within 62-61, but it gave the Utes (11-7, 2-4) a second chance. It was McDaniels' fourth technical of the season. So very, very happy he went to Washington. What a punk.

A very good "off" day for the Aztecs indeed.

UNLV is so close to being a Q2 team for us. They're at NET #137 and need to be at #135 for this game to be a Q2. They won't drop very far if we win but they do have a lot of tough games coming up.
Utah State plays Colorado State at Logan and then @ Wyoming before our game on Feb 1st. If they win both of those they should be under #70 at least and our game will at least be a Q2 home game. (75 or better required for Q2 home game)

...and Indiana takes down Michigan St. Significant because MSU is and will be a challenge to our getting a 1 or 2 seed. I know it sounds petty, but I find myself rooting against Michigan State every season, because it seems every damn year they are overrated by the polls and especially by the media, so I love to see them get taken down a notch or two. I think with the media, they all love Tom Izzo way too much, so they root for him to win. Like I said, I know it's petty on my part, but it's even easier now to root against them after the Larry Nasser scandals. I'm sure they'll choke again in the tournament.

Nevada is playing New Mexico tomorrow and it just came out that their point guard JaQuan Lyle is out "for a while" with a knee injury. That's 4 of their original 5 starters that are out.
