It’s such a great feeling to look at the top 25 scores to see who we need to lose and then realize, wait we are # freaking four in the country! Go Aztecs! Doesn't leave many teams for us to really root against.

FWIW, here are games today Directly affecting of SOS, Net, or MWC conference standing:
Rutgers at Iowa, Big Ten Network, 6:00 (Any of you having access to the Big Ten network are really sad, intellectually deprived individuals) Creighton at DePaul, CBSSN, 6:00 UNLV at Nevada, CBSSN 8:00 (like to see Nevada put up score a bunch of threes and destroy the Rebels)

Iowa up 9 with six minutes left and likely to get another Q1 win

Not impressed with UNLV, Nevada has been in control most of the way right after we handled Nevada. Bottom line - we are far and away the best team in the MWC. IMO, if we play our “B” game, none of these other teams will beat us even with their”A” game. The boys will stay laser focused on each game as it comes. Win, win, win ...

I've been rooting for any Top 10 team to lose simply because down the road they may be a threat to our No. 1 or No. 2 seed. Last night I watched nearly all of the Louisville/Georgia Tech game. I was interested in seeing how this edition of SDSU might stack up against a blue blood. Also, Georgia Tech now has over $60k of my hard-earned $$$ because my son just graduated from grad school there (well worth the expense, BTW.)
The visiting Jackets led most of the way, building up a 14-pt. lead with about 12 minutes to play. The Cardinals have a couple of serious bigs. All their guards are athletic, quick and stocky. They also have some 3-pt. sharp shooters. But they missed a ton of shots, didn't seem to work the ball around much and were disorganized on defense. Georgia Tech, as my son likes to say, is a team comprised of a bunch of Winston Shepards -- tall, rangy, and athletic, but not possessed of high basketball smarts or shooting prowess. With about 8 minutes to play, the 15-3 Cardinals began hitting their threes and pulled to an 11 point lead against the 8-10 Jackets. Then things got sloppy. The Jackets kept grinding and found themselves down by 6 with about a minute to play. They would make a basket and foul Louisville, whose shooters would then either miss the front end of a one-and-one or make only one of two FTs. In the final 30 seconds, GT had two chances to win. They missed a slam dunk and ensuing put back that would've put them up by one. Then with about 7 seconds left and trailing by two (thanks to a missed FT by Louisville, their best player dribbled up the court to the top of the key and without any Louisville defender thinking to step forward and put a hand up, got off a wide open three that narrowly missed, bouncing off the rim. That's how close Louisville came to getting bounced out of the top 10.
In comparing SDSU to either of these ACC teams, here's what I kept saying while watching this game that I almost never find myself saying while watching the '19/'20 Aztecs: Why are you dribbling around for no apparent reason? Why are your dribbling into double coverage into the corner? Why are you throwing the ball cross court so it can get stolen when the guy at the top of the key is wide open and can make a quick, easy second pass to the wing for a wide open trey? Why are you shooting an off-balanced, 15-foot jumper with a 6'10" guy in your face? Why aren't you hustling back on defense? Etc., etc.
The bottom line is this: While the game I watched last night featured at least two or three guys who will likely play in the NBA and while the court was lousy with 4- and 5-star recruits, the team play and the smart play was sporadic at best. The Aztecs simply pass better, shoot better, have better rhythm, hustle better and avoid doing all the little dumb things that can make you lose a game. Having said all that, we're still going to need Mensah, methinks, to go mano-a-mano with some of these blue bloods.

Iowa and Creighton both looked pretty good last night. I watched parts of both games. Watched the start of the UNLV-Nevada game, and as has been mentioned, Nevada just looked like the better team out of the gate, home court notwithstanding.

I find myself often saying, "Damn, that dude's a stud! We don't have anybody built like that on our team". I mean Matt can bang with pretty much anybody out there (I remember him guarding Zion Williamson last year in Maui and he held his ground), but some of these blue bloods have 2 or 3 guys who are 6'6" and 230 and have it distributed slightly more proportional than Matt. That said, I totally agree the highlighted area above. The Aztecs do the little things better than most as a TEAM, and that is what is winning ball games for them. Rhythm and flow, and lock down defense. Somebody, anybody, has to step up the rebounding though or we will run into trouble against bigger, stronger teams.

I find myself often saying, "Damn, that dude's a stud! We don't have anybody built like that on our team". We don't have anyone like 6'11" Luke Garza who can both dominate the middle and lead the Big Ten in scoring at 22.9 points per game. That guy is a straight-up stud and will be playing in the NBA. www.si.com/college/2020/01/22/luka-garza-iowa-basketballHe only managed 9-points in a losing effort when he played against the Aztecs. The team, the team, the team, the team.

The team, the team, the team, the team. Yes, but we tag teamed Garza with Wetzell and Mensah. They both had fouls to give and rotated in and out. Had we only Wetzell, it might've been Wetzell spending a big chunk of the game on the bench, not Garza. We really need Mensah to take a trip to Lourdes for a miracle cure. Or maybe he could go see Miracle Max.

Can you imagine how inspirational it would be (to team and fans alike) to see Nate make a miraculous appearance in the post-season?

Can you imagine how inspirational it would be (to team and fans alike) to see Nate make a miraculous appearance in the post-season? Yes. And if The Show were really on the ball, they'd have already found a reputable witch doctor and flown him in from Ghana in order to speed young Nate's recovery.
