How many good bowls does the MWC conference have? Only one, the Cheez-it Bowl isn't even our bowl. So, unless we win the conference we'll be playing a lot of MAC and CUSA Bowl Games. Yep. I’m tired of playing MAC teams |

The PAC and BIG12 don't want to play in bowls with the G5. ESPN wants to see the AAC matched up with other eastern schools. That leaves us with the leftover MAC and CUSA teams.

You guys realize our athletic dept. had no say in this matter, right? That's not quite correct. We told the MWC that we wanted a bowl before Christmas and the only options are Vegas, Hawaii, Frisco, and NM. The first three were out of the question so we ended up in NM. What's your source for this. My understanding is that Rocky wants a later bowl game so he can get an extra 'spring practice" for the young guys. I hadn't heard that we asked for a game before Christmas. |

Rocky must be very excited to go to the New Mexico bowl to play one of those directional school. Time for us to start looking at other conferences. This conference is run by a moron and the Mountain school dictate how far this conference goes.
Every-time we have an opportunity to improve this conference the MTN school make it worse by going opposite. BTW that MWC championship game needs to either be played at the new Rams stadium or Las Vegas. Our commissioner needs to work as hard as the athletes to find sponsorship to make this happen. This conference wont be considered even a good G5 without this happening.

Let's get real . We have very little choice of where we go for a bowl game . ESPN gets biggest amount of input . Rocky thinks that by playing before Christmas - players and fans are home for the Holidays . But guys have finals now - so less practice time . Practice time is an important time for the development of the team both experienced guys and the young guys . Also think a game in Arizona would draw more fans . Also some fans are going to basketball game vs Utah . Later game date would be easier for some to plan .
Do not think Defense sells for promoting a football game . Not sure MAC is that excited about playing us either .
MW championship game - unfortunately will guess that paying the cost to be in a new stadium could be more then MW is willing to pay

Wyomi went to the cheese it bowl which was much better Wrong dude! Wyoming is playing in the Arizona Bowl vs. really Big Time Georgia State!   Air Force with their 10-2 record is in the Cheese It Bowl vs. Wazzu. Maybe we should have gone to the Potato Bowl this year. They scheduled it all by itself on JAN. 3rd! Only problem is the opponent is Ohio. Not again!? |

That's not entirely true. You can submit a request, but the entire process is fluid and changes from day to day and hour to hour. The Cheez It was very high on our list, probably #1 in terms of what we wanted, but who gets in each bowl is a byproduct of the MWC, ESPN, the bowl committee itself, and/or the other broadcasting network if not ESPN. ESPN owns the New Mexico Bowl, not the Cheez It. From all accounts, the MWC actually wanted us in the Cheez It bowl; ESPN also wanted us in the Cheez It bowl. We were very close to being in the Cheez It bowl until AF did an end around the conference & ESPN and went straight to the committee and guaranteed 10,000 tickets, which is well beyond the required allotment. It's nearly a $1M guarantee. They apparently could afford to do that with Luke next door. Once the Cheez It was off the board ESPN, since they wanted us and happen to own the NM Bowl, negotiated with the conference & bowl committee so we would be in that bowl. Beyond Vegas there is NO bowl hierarchy. Had ESPN owned the Cheez it instead of the NM Bowl we'd be in Phoenix. |

It's being rightfully displeased the bowl system is rigged against what a lot of mid-major fans used to look forward to during bowl season...their team facing a P5 school. It's bad enough with the playoffs being rigged for certain member schools of certain P5 conferences but now this elitism has infected the bowls. Even lower bowls that used to feature most of the G5 vs. P5 match ups. |

Unless they want to wait until the championship is expanded to 8 teams (which may or may not ever happen), there's always the option of dropping down to the FCS level which already has that precise system in place. If you're voluntarily pulling yourself out of the bowl system, you might as well go all-in. Teams from the "higher" FBS should, in theory, be able to dominate the "lower" FCS schools and be the regulars (like the P5 in the big bowls) in the playoffs. If they can't dominate at the lower level, then they have no business complaining about being left out at the FBS level. |

If it were ever expanded to eight that would mean four more SEC teams in playoffs most likely. That’s why B1G is resisting 8. As Rocky has said , the only fair expansion would be to 16. But, it’s their money and they have no intention of sharing. As to dropping down to FCS as losers against the FBS monopoly— I hope I never live to see that, especially with a CFB gem of a stadium opening in a few years right here!

Remember when everyone begged for any bowl game? After 10 in a row, all of a sudden we should turn down an invite? Come on folks, a bowl game is better than no bowl game. Of course it would have been nice to play later against K St or Wash St. but it didn’t happen, so we have to root for a better result than the last couple years, in particular last year....that was an embarrassment. The team had a good season, not great. Clearly, the offense needs adjustments. Good for the program to get an invite, But doesn’t mean we should automatically accept the invite. I will finish by saying, I am proud of the players and the program that rocky has built and I look forward to the day that I get to watch my aztecs in the cotton bowl. Watched the Rocky Long show last night on his weekly tv show and he was VERY complimentary of Carson Baker. Also said Central Michigan is very big and very fast. Going to be a tough matchup! And watching the film, I would have to agree!
