Can't wait to see where our lone voter ranks us tomorrow. Jeff Call, a BYU guy from Salt Lake City, put us at #24 the Monday after we beat BYU and has kept us there ever since. collegepolltracker.com/basketball/team/san-diego-state-aztecs/2019John Rothstein also Tweeted out a lot of very positive things about the Aztecs after their games this week. Can't imagine him not having us in his Top 25.

They will need to thrash the Utes to get respect next week. I know a lot can happen between now and the 21st but as of today Sagarin has us at #13 in the country and 1st in the MW. Utah is ranked 8th in the Pac 12 @ #98. People are worried because they are a Power 5 team and that does mean something. But taken objectively, we should prevail, especially on a neutral court that will have lots of Aztec fans attending. A couple things: 1) Timmy Allen and Both Gach, two 6'6" Sophs we recruited hard, are two of their best players. Would love to show them what they missed. 2) Utah plays BYU (with Childs) on Wednesday and Kentucky three days before they play us. So Utah's record and rankings will probably be down even more by the 21st. We can't let down that day. We just CAN'T!!!

Who we rooting for in BYU@Utah?

Who we rooting for in BYU@Utah? Hard to say until the NET ratings start getting released, but early thought is Utah. We need BYU to be lower than 75 for a Quad 1 win and Utah to be under 100 to make the neutral site a Quad 2 game. With Childs coming back, a current #60 KenPom, and playing in the WCC I think they’re in a better position to absorb a loss and stay above that mark by March. Utah is currently 124 KenPom and will need to get some good wins sooner or later to get to 100. If Utah isn’t top 100 by March, our game against them isn’t really a resume booster and could theoretically be considered a bad loss. On the flip side though, one in the hand type of deal. BYU strengthening the numbers now cements in that Q1 win.

His Villanova pick at number 22 is no good. Going on reputation only

Who we rooting for in BYU@Utah? Assuming we beat Utah, I am pretty sure the math works better for us if BYU wins as they are almost certainly going to be the 'better' win.

I'm changing my guess from #21 to RV at #26, 27. Not seeing much respect for the Aztecs in the media this week. Saw a segment on ESPN about the "rising teams" Florida State, DePaul, and Dayton. Would have thought for sure we belonged on that list.

His Villanova pick at number 22 is no good. Going on reputation only Villanova's only two losses are to ranked teams. It's not a terrible pick. There at least a couple others that are worse. Michigan State lost to unranked Va Tech Florida lost to unranked U Conn Florida State lost to unranked Pitt. Unfortunately for the Aztecs, most of the teams in the top 25 have wins over other top 25 teams. I'm fine with the Aztecs staying under the radar for now. May help them keep a chip on their shoulder.

Agree with you regarding their losses, it’s their wins that are underwhelming. The body of work doesn’t seem to be better than ours.

They are going to get two more chances to OOC resume boost - versus Kansas and versus an undefeated Delaware team. I would point to Washington as a team that isn't that impressive in terms of body of work. Sagarin and Kenpom don't like them much compared to the Aztecs. Villanova's metrics are pretty much in line with their poll ranking.

Life of a mid major. Voters don't understand how hard it is to win at BYU and only care about wins versus ranked teams apparently even though this early, that shouldn't matter as much. I'd put up a road win at BYU and neutral wins against Creighton and Iowa against anyone.

Nevada writer voted us #20. Va Tech beat writer "looked hard at" SDSU, but voted Stephen F. Austin #25.
