I have no idea why Wicker scheduled BYU when he should know that 90% of the Aztec fans never want to see any team from that school in San Diego ever again (and they certainly don't want any Aztec team going to Provo). BYU was gone, out of our conference, out of our lives, but Wicker brought them back. This is not likely to end well. It almost never does. BYU is no longer a rival. At least, they shouldn't be. You can't have a rivalry if you never play each other. We never really had a rivalry with BYU. We considered them a rival, but they never considered us a rival. I'm not sure you can truly have a one sided rivalry. You're probably right. I always considered them to be the Evil Empire - when they were in our conference. |

Yeah, I'll always look at them that way, too - I just haven't had to look at them much at all since they did the world a favor and went independent. I have taken great pleasure in their failures since then. |

Yes, I was at that game vs. MCRD. I've never seen Aztec fans that angry. I was about 13 years old. I thought there was going to be a riot. And Long Beach was really quite good and beat us a number of times as I recall. Fresno was and continues to be a real rival but I didn't actually despise them like I do BYU.  What we are doing messing about with BYU I have no clue. I will not be watching or listening to that game. The game was in my first year as a student at State. My future, and current wife, was with me in the student section. My parents decided to go to the game there in Balboa Stadium and had seats under the press box in the reserved section. There was a high ranking Marine officer with a half-dozen or so aides sitting a couple rows in front of them. Not long after that horrible interference call, and as you say with lots of angry Aztec fans, someone near my parents stomped on a paper cup making a loud pop. The Marine and his aides immediately got up and left apparently fearing it was a gun shot. Remember, this was the weekend immediately after the Kennedy assassination. That, along with all the angry fans scared he away. Ah, the memories. |

No self-respecting Aztec fan would come close to equating ANY other team to BYU. Does BSU have anything resembling the BS Mission loophole that BYU does? No. Does BSU have a long history of BS on-field cheating vs. the Aztecs, i.e. anything coming close to Replaygate? No. Does BSU have anything close to the hypocritical, insufferable, self-righteous fan-base that BYU does? No. (I could go on, but why?) You wonder why you take so much heat from many on this board and why we question what kind of Aztec fan you are? It’s posts like the above. *************************************************** Help me out here. I hate BYU as much as anybody on here. Primarily because of their arrogance and kicking out ass on a regular basis when in the league. I agree about their fans and the mission is clearly a competitive advantage. I also believe we should not schedule them in any sport. However, aside from the Chad Bunn screw job and the Kyle Spain NO call at the end of a game at their place please tell me of instances of cheating by BYU. Please be specific. You mean other than when they cheated, when did they cheat? Cmon man, punching opposing players in the nuts, hitting opposing players with helmets ( both on tape), crying and whining about refs, losing a game but claiming that statistically they win, the whole team and fan base is a dumpster fire. Grandpappy is still boasting about that dubious national championship 50 years ago like it was yesterday and the call themselves P5 level. They suck and I hate them. |

But they are on the schedule and should be a big crowd(they travel well) if we are playing decent football heading into that game - they have beaten BSU so the game could be very important for Bowl games for both teams
