I stayed away from the board last night. I refused to get caught up in the negativity as I had that feeling. Sure enough, it was good to stay away and what a great second half. Defense is just vicious at times. We were missing our starting Warrior if I read correctly but next man up. Great team win and onto the next game. Surprising how Horton can be so bad and then good at times but he figured it out last night. I will take this win against a good WYO team who beat a good SEC team. This was never going to be an easy game but the boys got it done. Fun to watch that second half and I am pumped for the next game. Good decision. I never read any posts made during the game. I used to, but I couldn't stand the negativity either. I second this!

Good decision. I never read any posts made during the game. I used to, but I couldn't stand the negativity either. I second this! I wonder sometimes if OC isn't hindering Agnew? Seems he's a slinger and slingers gotta sling! Do think the QB sneaks were the calls of the night. I like Agnew and think we could use his strengths more but....

Whether it's bad/obvious play calling or poor execution by players, if that stuff doesn't happen there's nothing negative to post. The posts on a game thread just go with the flow and events of the game, and in the first half for the Aztecs there were more negatives than positives. That turned around in the 2nd half, and the tone of the game thread changed with it. Not completely, as the poor play calling and execution of the first half still affected the 2nd half, but the tone was much more balanced in the 2nd half, just like the game was.

It's been discussed here before, but there's a huge difference between constructive criticism and blatant negative, everything they do is wrong, ranting. Too many posters in the game thread just seem to criticize every play that doesn't go perfectly, proclaim that the game is lost even if it still in the first half. To a large degree it's the same posters spouting the negativity and who almost never have anything positive to say.
I don't enjoy reading that. So I don't.

I don't enjoy reading that. So I don't. Maybe you should actually read the game thread. When things went well, there was plenty of cheerleading and celebration and props given. But when things went badly people were bluntly honest in their assessments. The game thread was actually pretty well balanced. Not all criticism has to be constructive to be valid - if a play call is stupid there shouldn't be any sugar coating, or if a player makes a boneheaded play then he made a boneheaded play and saying so shouldn't be viewed as a bad thing. Everyone here wants the Aztecs to do well. Very well. And when they don't, especially given the collapse last season, frustration and criticism is a normal and natural reaction.

I agree with Aztecincc. I followed and participated in this thread during the game, and there was a lot of over the top negativity about our team, our coaches and players. My question is - why? Everyone posting claims to be an Aztec fan, and I take them as such. Does it make you feel better to bash our team, even when the game is still very winnable? Not saying that you can’t be critical, but the level and nastiness has driven many good fans away from this site. Something to think about?
Go Aztecs!

For me, having my cell phone and/or computer sitting open to Aztec Mesa while the game is actually on T.V. is akin to seeing a wreck on the side of the road, pulling over and getting out of my car, punching myself in the face a few times (for affect), and laying down on the pavement with the other victims. Now, why would I do that?

I have read the game thread. I'll agree it's not the worst one, but not by a lot because we came back. There still wasn't any reason for me to want to read the comments made while the game was going on. Read couldashoulda's post above.
I'm not sure all the negative posters want the Aztecs to do well. They seem to enjoy making harsh criticism when things aren't going well and ignore anything positive. You offered your share of negitivity during the thread but swung with the wind when was favorable. I'll give you that, at least.
I'm sure you've read the other posts with complaints similar to mine. So, I'm not the only one who feels this way. I'll continue avoiding game time comments.

Yep, I agree with you. I choose to go on there to counter the negativity, and try to bring some reality to the conversation. The worst part are the posters who give up in the first half, or actually in the first quarter. Those are people who I would never want to go to battle with. Rocky Long has shown that he can make a difference during halftime, when the team is down. Wyoming wasn't so good that we couldn't come back. They needed a tongue lashing that's for sure, and some strategic straightening out. Our defense will always keep us in a game, and if the offense gets it going we win. That's what happened last night.

I doubt how serious of "fans" they really are.

I know you're not the only one who doesn't like negative or highly critical comments about the coaches or players. I will never understand the discomfort some people have in regard to harsh (but not unwarranted) criticism and negative comments when players are playing poorly or coaches are doing a poor job. In the heat of the moment being diplomatic and mincing words just seems silly to me. As does being negative when good things are happening. (I did see some of that in the 2nd half, but not a lot). I view the game thread as an eyewitness account of the game, and some of us are just brutally honest about what we're seeing. Some people do take it a bit far, but the term FAN comes from fanatic, which we all are when it comes to Aztec athletics.

What really pisses me off is that late hit OOB that Horton put on Wyoming's QB after a missed snap on 3rd down. He should be fired for that Good point. Mrs. Horton, may I please have another glass of lemonade? These crackers are making me thirsty. LOL. That is hilarious.
