Kudos to the defense for doing a good job on a good Utah State offense. It is a miracle they didn’t completely run out of gas, with the crappy offense not giving them any rest.

We played poorly on offense, but still could have won. The west division is wide open - Fresno struggled with Sac State tonight. We’re starting to get some yards on the ground, but still need to improve. Getting our ground attack up over 150 yds a game would be huge. USU was the better team tonight, but not by as much as the halftime score suggested, and there’s a lot of football to be played. Maybe we can get a rematch in the MWCCG?
Go Aztecs!

Why? New Orleans run defense sucks and Drew Brees is out! Great a fine cr@p sandwich of a football weekend! Anyone shooting 3's in the JAM Center??

Well I guess it could be worse. Washington State blew a 32 point lead in the second half at home and are about to lose to winless UCLA.

It was actually worse than the halftime score suggested. After the Aztecs opening drive the offense was pretty much shut down, and had the defense not stood up and forced some short FGs the game would have been a complete bow out at halftime.

The pick six is what it is. The defense gave up 13 points in the second quarter (certainly not helped by the offense being shutout), so that was our worst quarter. USU’s defense gave up 14 in the 4th, and their offense was shutout. Look at the final stats - they are very even, including passing yards. I agree that the defense played much better than the offense, but as a TEAM, we were pretty even with USU - and I believe that we have the potential to improve significantly on the offensive side of the ball. Ultimately, if we play better on either the pick six play or the long pass reception just before the half, we probably win the game. Go Aztecs!

The offense was completely shut down after the opening drive, the whole first half was bad for the offense, and again without a couple redzone stops resulting in short FGs this game is over at halftime. The defense also did the unforgivable by getting beat over the top at the end of the 1st half. And don't kid yourself about the 4th quarter, if was a struggle to move the ball, and get them off the field, the last 5 minutes of the game they basically killed the clock. The Aztecs benefitted from some amazing catches, two broken play TDs, a muffed punt USU should have recovered, and a missed FG from a very reliable kicker. USU did everything possible to keep us in the game. The pick 6 was one play, we dominated time of possession as well. The stats are nearly meaningless from this game.

The problem is Horton does not know how to call plays for Agnew and Agnew has been poorly coached up. He still looks and plays like a freshman. This seems to fall back on the coaches (Horton and Morgan) Agnew has been in the system for over 4 1/2 years. Teams figured out that Agnew is not likely going to beat them deep, so they crowed box.

Yes, IF our defense had played poorly, we would have been blown out. But, our defense played well against an NFL quality QB - really well. And it wasn’t luck. Our offense needs to improve, but that doesn’t negate the fact that they made some nice plays in the 4th quarter. Why is it when their QB scrambles to keep the play alive and then finds an open receiver it’s great QB play, but when our guy does the same it’s luck? Why were USU’s amazing catches a result of skill, while our’s seem to be viewed as luck? Why aren’t USU’s interception and long run thru the Aztec offense, their covering of multiple dropped snaps, and our guys dropping multiple possible interceptions considered lucky for USU, but our covering of a muffed punt is? USU’s kicker misses a pressure 40+ yard FG and it’s luck, but that’s a difficult kick for any college kicker. I guess I prefer to view the glass as half full. Go Aztecs!

The Aztecs were resilient and didn't quit. I never said luck. Guys getting lost in coverage, or defenders falling down is not gonna score many TDs, it's the definition of low percentage. When the game was being played straight up we were dominated. USU didn't really have amazing catches, it was mostly guys getting open and catching balls in front of our DBs to move the chains. Their kicker hasn't missed an extra point in his career, made three 51 yarders in one game and was perfect last night before his miss, that dude is a stud. And multiple USU defenders not falling on a ball and having it squirt out for an Aztec recovery is the epitome of luck. Tell yourself whatever you have to, but I don't wanna see those guys again this year.

I’d LOVE to play USU again this year - even if we have to go to Logan!
Go Aztecs!

Agnew should have taken a safety after he ran from the 35 back to the goal line. Down by 8 with an onside kick chance. That probably wasn’t on anyone’s mind though, with the ball being snapped at the 40. What a crazy qtr.
