Was looking at some tape of Fairfield games and I wonder if we had some interest in Keith Dinwiddie teammate point guard Justyn Hunter. First team league player senior. Looks to be pretty quick but a tad smaller 5’ 11”. I wonder if Dutcher would have interest in discussing walk-on status with kid. I don't think Dutcher would bring in two Freshman PGs at the same time.

think there could be some very interesting competition at the guard position - with 5 or 6 contenders

LA City CIF POY 2020. Wasn't Kawahi a CIF POY too? I believe the last LA City POY to commit to the Aztecs was Tommy Johnson, who won the award in 2000.

LA City CIF POY 2020. Wasn't Kawahi a CIF POY too? Kawhi was California Mr. Basketball Your are correct. From Wikipedia. "In his senior year there, he and Tony Snell led the King High Wolves to a 30–3 record. Leonard averaged 22.6 points, 13.1 rebounds, 3.9 assists, and 3 blocks per game that year and was named California Mr. Basketball."

I know fans are always overly excited and expect too much from whatever recruits their school has coming in BUT, any kid that wins the LA city POY, can ball.

CIFLACS Co-Players of the Year: Keith Dinwiddie, Senior from Fairfax (6'2 180) and Fidelis Okereke, Senior from King Drew (6'6 230). Dinwiddie is 3-star and signed with SDSU, Okereke listed as a 2-star player with two offers from DII Cal State Dominguez Hills and Binghamton (NY). Fidelis Okereke, has been in obsecurity all year. Its just odd, since he is POY and not ranked or recruited. scorebooklive.com/california/all-l-a-city-section-open-division-2019-2020-boys-basketball-team/

LA city CIF is a really small section. Most of Southern California is made up of the southern section. Not surprising that the two co players of the year are a 3 star And a 2 star recruit That sort of hurts, but may be true. I went to a City CIF school and in the 70s, 80s and into the 90s Crenshaw HS and Willie West, produced some of the best west coast basketball players. Now they have basketball mills pretending to be High Schools. West coached Crenshaw HS Boys BB for 37 years and went 802-139, pretty impressive. I even watched Dwayne Polee play at Manuel Arts HS in 1980, damn good for a city player. His son was pretty good too. Westchester HS is a City CIF school as well, they have had success too: Dwayne Polee II, Tony Bland, Brandon Heath and of course current Aztec Jarred Barnett. Coach Ed Azzam went after his 15th City title this year, just one shy of Crenshaw High’s Willie West who won 16. But Fairfax won in the end. Ok, end of the history lesson.

Not last years edition but this year. Dude is a load bringing the hammer. Good rim protector avg 16 points and almost 3 blocks a game. Only been playing for 3 years and this year showed significant improvements Thought of initially as a division 2 player now moving into division one consideration. I wonder if he could grow an inch or two more. Straight A student. Very intriguing player especially if Mitchell goes pro.

If Flynn and Mitchell both leave, Gomez and Okereke could be pretty decent replacements, and we'd still have room for a GTR to replace Yanni. Although if Mitchell leaves, the other possibility would be both Morgan from LBSU - to sit out a year - plus a GTR Center.

I’m guessing the reason this kid Okereke isn’t a high rated recruit is he has Mitchell’s body but not his game, he’s a post player. But at 3 blocks per game he’s likely got length and timing. He’ll be slept on ... go to a school like Santa Barbara, and average 15 and 10, and be a hugely sought after grad transfer in a few years.

He is actually averaging 16 pts 10 boards, 5 block shots a game instead of 3. Had 5 triple doubles this year. Has only been playing organized ball for 3 years. Agreed will get by passed initially, play for a LBST type school and then get great results and have schools wondering how we missed this kid. Co-player of year with Dinwiddie. Nice article in LA Times about the kid. Two star recruit.
Sorry was not able to link article.
Quote following Junior year, “After that Fremont game I immediately went to the gym and I started looking at the many flaws I had. I didn’t feel like my body was right, I didn’t feel like I was fundamentally sound, I just felt disconnected and that game pushed me to do what was needed for my team for us to have a chance to win every game. My drive went up, I was running more, I was getting comfortable in my own body, I was learning more about defense, I changed my diet and I started watching a lot more basketball videos of Hakeem or Jordan trying to see how I could use their moves and make them into my own. Everyday in the summer I worked out for hours, pushing myself to be better, pushing myself to be stronger, staying in the gym until 11 p.m. or later trying to get my touch on my shot, improving my free throws, even improving my passing. Last year I was really raw but the stuff I did in the summer, the breakdowns of the moves I’ve learned, the court vision that I’ve gained, and my improved will to win with my team pushed me to be a better version of myself.”
There is a lot to like about this guy.

One of the reasons that the Aztecs got Kawhi was that he had played hoops for just a couple of years and really blew up during his senior year, after committing to SDSU. He was a prospect that was somewhat under the radar because he did not have a large body of work and few all-star games played aginst the best players, for comparison purposes.
Am not saying that Fidelis is the next Kawhi, but, it is surprising that he is getting so little love from the D1 schools. I'd say that he is worthy of getting a few better opportunities.

He may have Mitchell's height and weight but he doesn't have his body. He doesn't have the big belly/butt. He is built from the waist up and a much better leaper from the few highlights I found. I'd think he'd be a great walk-on.
