Gotta love a guy that makes almost every shot on his highlight reel!

Seems like the kind of player we 'should' be going after... instead of all these 5-stars we have no chance at.

We have 3 open scholarships, 2 more after the season then 4 guys leaving the following year. Wouldn't hurt to add some experience and a guy who was a little more mature.
Do guys who typically knock down 70% of their free throws become good 3 point shooters? I do like that he gets to the line though and rebounds.
While maybe he doesn't become all conference we definitely aren't on fire in the recruiting world so maybe it's best to grab quality transfers until Dutcher proves himself and we can make a run or two again.

Uhh... he was a freshman. In the PAC, while the PAC had a preeeetty good year. And played 26 minutes a game. And averaged 10, 5 and 3... And he's a step down from something?

great offensive talent . Did have major issue with team conduct rules / suspended by the coach for a few games . Utah Coach and others expected him to transfer . Would guess Dutcher and staff have done their homework .

He was also playing significant minutes against quality opponents (xavier, UCLA, etc.), so it wasn't just garbage time in blowout losses.

From Bleacher Report Feb '17
"Utah freshman guard Devon Daniels was suspended indefinitely for conduct detrimental to the team, head coach Larry Krystkowiak announced...The Battle Creek, Michigan, native has started 26 of the 27 games he has appeared in this season and is fourth on the team in scoring with 10.4 points per contest, third in rebounding with 4.8, second in assists at 2.7 and second in steals at 0.9....Krystkowiak did not provide specifics regarding the violation, and it is unclear how many games Daniels will miss."
Does anyone know what the violation was?

This kid can PLAY. NBA potential. That's the upside. Don't know why he, and Zamara as well, were suspended but I'm guessing it wasn't good but also wasn't illegal, or you'd have read about it. Scuttlebutt is that after he returned he was more of a disruption than a benefit, but he didn't want to leave Utah. He still wanted to earn his way back but LK didn't want to give him the opportunity. He was booted.
Some guys turn it around when they have a 2nd chance, and the good thing is we have a scholarship available and a year to evaluate him. It's not like we're giving him PT right away. If he does anything stupid or isn't a good fit, don't renew the scholarship which would mean him missing another year. Doubt he'd let that happen. Some guys are ALWAYS trouble, but doubt anyone really knows if that's the case with him? Maybe he just needed a little humble pie.

Do we need another guard? Really fed up with the inability to get any kid that is 6'8'' or taller
Has anyone asked the question of the coaching staff as to why BIGS are not convinced by SDSU basketball?

All frail and skinny like all the athletes we recruit...
We are simply not getting the help in the middle that we need along with any true power forwards

You can see him talk smack to the other team's bench - a bit crazy in that regard so i see why the suspension when high on emotion. But any player who got 26 mpg and scored 10 ppg as a freshman in a strong PAC12 year is worth a strong look. This would be a HUGE get for us.

Agree with drunkalot: Those are impressive numbers for a freshman in the pac10. Worth a long look IF Dutcher is OK with the disciplinary issues explanations.

he has passed first test getting the invite here , so the coaches and players can get a short closer read on him . Would also guess that our coaches have chatted with Utah's and our players talk with Utah players . Good reason they have the visits to see if it is a fit for both sides . He has also two other schools , so no slam dunk .

This kid can hoop. I'd be pumped if he signs with the Aztecs.
