Literally a one man team if he goes to NM...

As yet another Lobo player transfers out (Jefferson), a large chunk of their chat board is is getting pretty despondent. Can't say I blame them after 5 players transferred and 3 recruits changed their minds. Some of the faithful are counting on their new coach that they took from New Mexico State, Weir, to bring them back to relevance. He's supposedly going to get them conditioned like never before and do a run and gun offense with a suffocating defense. They're pinning a lot of hope on getting Jackson into the fold.

They (Lobolair) have an interview with Jackson up where he sounds impressed with the Lobo pitch... the Lobo pitch basically being "You're the Guy and we'll build our entire team around you".
I'm not sure we can offer that, or quite honestly ever would to anyone outside a consensus top 10 guy. If that's what he wants, I'd imagine it would be hard to pass up a ground up rebuild.

maybe he envisions coming into Lobo Land and shooting as much as E. Brown , trying to be a transfer that plays 1 year(after sitting out a year ) and off to NBA ?

Literally a one man team if he goes to NM... I think you meant to say "figuratively". Literally of course means......only one Lobo trots out there to play one-on-five. I literally just took you to school....oh....uh....wait a second.

Then again, he may want to play on a winning team that has a legitimate shot @ MM. And get the attendant NBA visibility.

Of course I'd like to see h in red and black but it will be solid for the conference if he goes to UNM. Need them to get back on track. That ain't happening anytime soon

Well, it's a "win-win," then. If he wants to be 'THE guy' then UNM is the place for him (would be a bad fit for SDSU's team-first culture), and he might help the Lobos regain credibility and help out our conference strength & depth. If the Lobo PR spin is total B.S. and Vance wants to work hard and compete to win on a very strong team... then he'll pick SDSU over UNM.

He wouldn't be THE guy at SDSU, but would definitely get a lot of PT. He & McD would be a great tandem in 2-3 years, but they're also very similar. With NM losing 2 players today it'll be interesting to know if Jackson knew about them leaving during his trip? It's easy to say you "love their pitch" and there's no doubt that being told you're "THE GUY" is appealing to all, but there are other aspects to that. You want to be THE GUY while being supported by other players. Right now NM can't sell him on any teammates. By the time he's eligible, literally every single one of his teammates right now would be seniors. There's nobody on that roster that he can look at as a teammates during his junior/senior years. That can't be very appealing. If Harris/Jefferson and/or Uguak would have stuck around, maybe. Right now Weir's selling him on building around him with imaginary teammates.

With so many current players, and ALL of their recruits, hitting the silk he probably would get plenty of PT. But, what sort of guys will he playing with for three years?
Being "The Man" on a crappy team may not take him very far after unm.

Isn't he still supposed to visit Baylor next week? Or has that changed? There is a post on the Lobo board that he cancelled the Baylor visit. Bad sign if true. Even though it'd reduce the finalists from 4 to 3, the fact he'd do so after visiting NM (rather than after visiting UW/SDSU) isn't a good sign. Hope I'm wrong. Not the end of the world if true; other fish in the sea.

I have a feeling he's not coming here....and that's ok! If he feels like he has to be the big man on the team, he would never work here anyways...

SDSU needs to get Bigby-Williams and then save the last scholarship.

SDSU needs to get Bigby-Williams and then save the last scholarship. He'd be great, although I still think he ends up at Baylor or back at UO. But he'd be a good fit in 2 years, but giving a guy a 2-year scholarship for 1 year of play, knowing he could possibly even transfer again next year as a grad transfer, is risky. Jackson would be #1. Tshisumpa would be another good add. There could always be another late one as well, much like Teki (in August). Definitely save the last one for a mid-year transfer.
