The number of seats won in the house really surprised me. Looks like Win was right. (Had to hold my nose saying that ;D)
The ball is now in your court. Are you going to try to actually bring about change or just go after the Democrats?
Isa has already announced that he will be using his new power for pure partisan politics. What about the rest?
Let's see if the Tea Party representatives actually try and live up to their bluster.
Good luck.

They will definitely be on probation.
IMO, one of the first things they should do is investigate these unaccountable "czars", and cut every penny of their salaries entirely out of the budget.

We will have to wait and see if the Repubs and the Tea party folks hear what the voters have told them. They had better try to reduce the size of government and reverse ObamaKare as much as they can. They same old crap from the Republicans will get them thrown out just as fast as the Dems did. It is definitely probation.

What can the Republicans really do with Obama in the White House and Democrats still running the Senate?
It's still the Democrats in charge, folks... (The Repuliblicans will be able to apply the brakes a little, that's all.)

Now that the right wing kooks have been elected, the right wing kooks on this board, and the rest of the ones in the country, have a wonderful excuse not take any responsibility and keep blaming the democrats.

Actually, I am laughing out loud at the Republicans. The condition of the economy should have given the Republicans both houses of Congress. Yet, in the face of sure victory they fielded some of the worst candidates ever to seek election. The Republicans should have won Nevada, but they nominated a shrew. The Republicans should have won Delaware, but they nominated a moron. The Republicans should have won West Virginia, but they nominated a predatory animal. They should have won California, but they nominated a corporate drone that even a moron could tell cared nothing for common people.
Only the incomparable Aqua Budda and the Predator of the Aged in Florida won.
Yes sir. I am Laughing Out Loud! The only thing funnier is that Republican rule will be stupid as well.

Only the incomparable Aqua Budda and the Predator of the Aged in Florida won. Yes sir. I am Laughing Out Loud! The only thing funnier is that Republican rule will be stupid as well. Come on, W, you have got this only partially right. There is no doubt that several GOP candidates were weak, but to whom do you make reference when you speak of the "Republicans"? The weak candidates were chosen by voters in primary elections. Had the GOP "establishment" had its way, several of those candidates would not have run. Instead, more mainstream candidates with a better chance would have been on the ballot. As for Delaware, that's a very Dem state, so even a more viable Rep. candidate might still have lost, though the race would have been closer. Nevada? Supposedly, Engle was up by 4% in the last poll taken, but the Dem. machine somehow got out the vote. Could a more "centrist" Rep. have beaten Reid? Maybe, maybe not. The important thing is not that the Republicans did not take the Senate. No. The important thing is that the Republicans DID NOT take the Senate! I've been saying, and at least one national pundit agrees with me, that the outcome of a GOP House and a (narrowly) Dem. Senate is the worst of all worlds for BHO. Now The One will not be able to run against a "do-nothing" Rep. Congress as Truman did in 1948. Keep in mind also that the GOP cleaned up in governorships and state legislatures. There is no doubt that Tuesday was a HUGE repudiation of Obama and the Democrats in general. However, that's only a prelude to the next two years. Everything is up for grabs. For Obama, a clever recalibration of his policies is in order. There is a lot of doubt as to whether he will be willing or able to do that, of course. He is no Bill Clinton. Say what you will about Clinton, the guy had a lot of executive experience in dealing with the Republicans in Arkansas. Obama, on the other hand, is almost without doubt the least well prepared man ever to take office. (Obama could use a personality makeover, too, but that will be really tough. A large dose of humility is indicated.) For the Republicans, they must walk a fine line between total stonewalling (to please the Tea Parties) on the one hand and too much compromise of core values on the other. Most of all, the GOP needs to find an out-of-the-box candidate to run against BHO in '12. I keep thinking of Wendell Willkie in 1940. Sure, Willkie lost, but his candidacy was an example of someone who came out of left field to beat out the party regulars. Oh, yes, Wilkie had been a Democrat until 1939! Obama will be reelected if the economy is a lot better (somewhat doubtful but not impossible) or if the GOP puts up a really weak candidate (Palin?). The results could be close, but I judge the odds of an Obama defeat at about 1 in 3. AzWm

I think the fear is palpable on YOUR side. It should be. Your assertions are claims not in evidence. As for California, I'm delighted with the results. That dysfuntional state no longer is the "cutting edge" of how the nation goes. It will be left in the wake, and on an ash heap. The sooner the better, and this election will accelerate its demise. I hope unemployment explodes, and the state is left with nothing but a few millionaires in their enclaves, and millions of Mexicans out of work. And NO FEDERAL BAILOUTS!!!!!!!!!!!! NONONONONO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sid...you assume (as a few others do on here) a black/white, democrat/republican World. I am not an ideologue, I don't mind a moderate Republican..and have voted for a few. What I dislike, as much as you dislike anybody in politics, is a right wing, dumb, whack job... like Palin (and a few of her endorsements).

Well, Obama blamed Bush for two years! If the Repubs will try to defund parts of ObamaKare and reduce spending in general we might be able to make some headway. Send up some amendments like Tort Reform that Obama would not be abe to veto without sowing his colors and people will see some light. The Republicans have got to do more than just throw wrenches in the works or they will be sent packing along with some more Democrats in two years.

I think I detect a little bit of the bitter taste of what the strong needed medicine will naturally bring to one that is really sick. For sure it should have been even worse for the liberals, but we have got a huge problem to overcome in California and in Mass. It might take the real bitter pill of a bankrupt State of California for us to get the message.

What can the Republicans really do with Obama in the White House and Democrats still running the Senate? It's still the Democrats in charge, folks... (The Repuliblicans will be able to apply the brakes a little, that's all.) Since no spending can take place without the House initiating a bill, it seems that the Republicans can do plenty. Especially since they are calling for a reduction in spending. They can shut down the government, which probably wouldn't be very popular, but more realistically, they can simply extend the continuing resolution and allow the government to operate at FY2010 levels. Sure they can't fulfill their promise to reduce spending to 2008 levels (with the usual exceptions for a few small programs like SS, Medicare, Defense, and other emergency appropriations), but it would prevent the government from growing, which is what they claim is most important. If the House passes a CR and the Senate or President fail to act, it won't be the Republicans fault.
