Stan you referring to bigs like Jelani McCoy (probably no relation), Withey whose parents they say are Aztecs, that dude from that army academy that went to Oregon st? Joe Burton who really was pretty big, hailed from Hemet, CA? and chose Oregon State.

Abukar was a high rated recruit who didn't pick us in the beginning but did transfer home eventually. So you see Stan we do get bigs like him and Chol albeit not right away.

I think he's referring to Cheikh N'diaye, a 7-footer from Army-Navy currently a Junior at Oregon St, though I don't believe we recruited him.

Meh, Burton was one. Even if he was only a 6'7" 270 lb. Center. He was offered by SDSU, Utah and Marquette in 2009. He may not have been that big of a loss but he was just another in a long list of locals that rejected an SDSU offer. Not at all worried, I have grown to expect and accept it!
GO AZTECS!!

as many are mentioning we have not been able to sign many of the guys who are PF/C directly out of HS from San Diego County . High level recruits Chase B , Leaf , Walton who went to Arizona, .... some of the other mid level ,we do get some transfers including M. Thomas , Adukar ( sp) , Chol ... . Lately we have also had difficulties signing former Aztec greats sons . Signing quality guys that want to play the 5 position has not been easy . 2016 HS recruits - with the NCAA situation and .... we again had trouble signing top level 5's . We did get Nolan who is learning the 5 and there is Leonard Allen at a local JC .
would be great if McCoy changed the trend but would not bet on it .PAC and Zags have beaten us to most of the quality guys that play the 5 .

Both those guys would have played behind Skylar for 3 years, and not sure either would have been good fits with our team.
Definitely not Rooks; would not fit with our defensive style. N'Diaye hasn't been in OSU's rotation & he's a junior. Do believe he could have been a deep bench guy who might see time next year, but if it mean losing Chol the last 2 years no thanks.
Wouldn't count these 2 as guys we "lost". They were just local big guys who we weren't all that interested in.
Leaf, yes. We lost that one. Chol rebounded.
We'll see on McCoy.

Zags? I don't remember any centers we lost to the zags though I maybe mistaken, in fact we have generally beaten them on recruiting trail. Lots of the guys mentioned were pre perennial NCAA Tournament SDSU, no recruit in Withey's situation was going to choose SDSU, it doesn't work that way. San Diego's local talent dried up significantly recently but that is changing, hopefully we can keep some of these guys home, I'd love to have McCoy but don't see it happening. But Stan what happened a decade ago when SDSU was a we make the tourney every 3 years program isn't really relevant to now.

Well said, although will disagree on McCoy I think we're at least 50% but I might be reading more into something than should be. Of course I thought the same of Cage.
PS. I think he's referring to Zach Collins (Zags, but not from here).

Correct Aztecs lost most of the recruiting battles for guys that play the 5 position - including Zack Collins ( not a local ) to the Zags, also J. Williams a Transfer from Mizzu , and numerous guys in CA many to PAC schools in 2016 class Cage, Kone, Stanfield . Agree San Diego area has not had many top 25 recruits , but may have a some for 2017 class . Bland / USC has made great advances in recruiting lately as have other PAC schools .
Do hope we can sign McCoy but it is going to be a major challenge.
Q - how would you say SDSU is doing recruiting now compared to say 6,6,4,3,2 years go ? Had one very good class last year . This year we did add JH our major need at PG . For 2016 , Jalen and Nolan two top 100 recruits and hopefully high quality red shirt transfer MG-C . So are we doing better or worse then the better PAC schools . ?

Collins wasn't from here and also isn't a center.

Neither Collins or Williams are close to centers, they are as much centers as Norain is. I don't remember the mention of Williams with SDSU but I'm more than happy with where SDSU will be at PF next year, Collins was no doubt a loss and would have been nice to have but whether Narain/Collins could play together is very questionable on defensive end.

Zack Collins ( Bishop Gorman Las Vegas ) 6'11" 235 lbs. rated #34 recruit in the nation and is listed as Center . It was down to SDSU and Zags, but he said he liked the way Zags used their Centers in their offense. J. Williams from Mizzu , believe we did not go after strongly because at the time we still thought BJ was coming here . I really think Nolan will become a very good player in the front court- has good offensive game learning to play the 5 . If we could have gotten both Narain and either Collins or Williams ( a 5 that likes to shoot a lot ) , we could have passed on Max at SF .
Aztecs do not have an easy time signing many HS recruits to come in and play the 5 . Skylar - most noted for D was the last one . Not sure before that , have needed to get transfers . We were not able to sign any of the 3 we were going after Cage, Kone, Stanback ( NCAA situation hurt ) and there was PT to be earned . . Very thankful Nolan and Jalen McD ( 6'9" but very slender frame and prefers to play the 4 ) are here for 2016 but he will need assistance at the 5 .

He's also 7'0" 230 & plays center. OP totally butchered it- wrong school, wrong position, wrong vitals. Only thing he got right was how we'd love to see him wind up here. How the F**k did I "butcher it"? The numbers I cited were directly off the website... I saw the link and posted it, summarizing what I found there. What the hell am I supposed to do? Assume the website doesn't know what they're talking about? If there was any "butchery" involved it was whoever did the research for the website.

He's a local kid who's one of the best in the nation, most people are aware who he is & that he is no longer at Morse (& has grown!). You came across an old article with obviously old info. Maybe when starting a thread, make sure you have it correct, especially on a local. Sorry for my harshness.
