Leaf's body language at that game seemed aloof, non involved. When Fisher was introduced after they named the court after him, everyone stood and clapped, Leaf not so much. Leaf just sat in his chair looking around. When the Aztecs made some good plays, dunks and such, he never clapped or cheered the Aztecs on. I will be very pleased if he picks SDSU, and I hope I read him wrong, but I don't think so. Did you get to see his body language when he was at his last UCLA game? Without being able to compare his reactions during the games it is impossible to interpret his body language. Good point; however, I saw what I saw. So he is either a really laid back aloof kid, or he is not coming to SDSU, LOL. He did stand for the National Anthem lol. I remember seeing other players SDSU was recruiting getting into the game and cheering etc.

Sounds like he was acting like some of the fans that sit around me. And they're paying for the tickets.

The Real Oracle predicts CSUSM. The Real Oracle Out Which would explain the body language and not cheering.

I sure hope recruits don't read this board. Some of the stuff written here is downright comical. (It's probably the same on all fan boards but jeeezzus. Stop with the random guessing based on who knows what... he's just an 18 yr old kid trying to make a decision on his future.)

Some recruits certainly do, but this is par for the course at pretty much any program with a high number of board traffic.

I don't really understand the Shoe Company and AAU connection...can someone explain this to me?
So I'm an 18 year old and I play AAU and it is sponsored by say Adidas. I get that Adidas wants top players to go to the schools it sponsors so that those schools are better, on TV more, etc. but why do I care as a kid? What makes an Adidas school more attractive to the kid?
From an AAU perspective, same thing. In Leaf's situation, I could see wanting to play with the same kids who have become your friends, but what makes an AAU team more likely to send kids to certain schools?

I too was unimpressed with the way he handled himself at the csusm game. Sat the whole time coach fish was speaking, never once did he clapp or acknowledge what coach fish has done. I know it's petty on my part, but his demeanor was as if he was better than the team. One bad apple spoils the bunch, hope he was just playing it cool. I just remember when Zylan came to watch games he was through the moon excited to be there. Could really care less if he goes to UCLA, we will be great with or without him. GO AZTECS!!!!

Wow, you all do some serious leaping of logic and facts going on here. Pre-trashing recruits before they commit somewhere, that's new and could become a self-fulfilling prophecy.

I'm a little amazed so many people were watching Leaf at the CSUSM game. If I'm people watching during the game, there are plenty of better options at State

Very simple - their coaches/leadership, who have the direct connection to the kid & thus can help influence their decision, get pressured by the shoe companies to favor schools they sponsor. Loyalty & incestuous type of thing.
Benefits to the kid? Probably not much, other than he's become accustomed to wearing a certain type/style/feel of shoe/uni, and maybe he feels a sense of loyalty to a brand that's been handing him freebie stuff for years?
In other words, peer pressure on both fronts...
There's a reason Sonny Vaccaro was in such high demand pushing shoes on young kids....
Unfortunately...

That's not a fair comparison. Zylan is probably excited when he has to take out the garbage.

Cuz they're paying the schools. They're paying the coaches. They're paying the leagues. And they're paying -- either indirectly or, dare I say, in some cases, directly -- the athletes themselves. These shoe companies have pull in who gets in their pipeline and who doesn't. And don't think they can't affect playing time or at least influence preferential treatment. And beyond college, they do the same thing in the pros. So I'm sure they're whispering in kids ears that if they stick with them, they'll have a better shot at hooking on with the Lakers, Sixers, Spurs, etc.
