Our current players already are/can be as good as any of the available transfers, especially now that the top few are off the board. Its simply on the players to work on their games, but also on the coaches to use them right. We have some of the best wings in basketball who can dribble, drive and rebound but are not great shooters ... and they are standing around on the perimeter waiting to jack shots or watching someone go one on one with no movement. I would love to see big on big pick-and-roll using Shepard, Pope and Cheatham every time down the floor with someone rolling to the basket. We only have an advantage on the wings if we exploit it. The coaches need to find a way to get better ball movement and get more stuff going to the basket or more small ball using Pope, Shepard and Cheatham on the floor as our forwards and centers with no true big. Zeigler in the UT 4/24 seems to note that the two grad transfer the Aztecs may consider , would be additions M. Tollefsen 6'9" SF 9 rated 11th best transfer) or Lonnie Jackson 6'4" SG . As you point out more important are getting Shepard and Pope back , with Zylan . Still waiting to hear from D. Allen . Instead of just having forwards as the guys down low ,it would be even better if we could get our Centers truly involved in the offense . That would help this year and trying to recruit centers in the future . Skylar is a force on D , so we need him , but should also work as he has been doing on his offense .
the key recruit Aztecs are trying to get for this year if reclassifies to 2015 instead of 2016, is N. Narain 6'10". Zeigler hints it could be between the Aztecs and the Zags . Aztecs want him for whatever year he wants to come here .
there has also been talk with JH at PG , the coaches may use a more up tempo style , with numerous guys going strong to the basket .

With Winston and Pope coming back . Stanley J plus other forwards from Arizona heading to NBA , was easy choice for Tollefsen , who likes to shoot . May also give D. Allen more reasons to stay . We have 11 players - so could even let BJ red shirt to start the season , unless it becomes necessary for him to play or he shows the talent to be a top reserve . Fisher plays 10 in OOC then narrows it to 8 or 9 as the season gets near the end . signal for the returning guys and JH to step up . I also agree it was too bad Zabo left. he and JH could have been a dynamic pair of PG 's .
Or as mentioned sign Narain . Need him badly for 2016 .

He wouldn't have seen much PT here. He wouldn't start. He would have been the starter at the '4' position from the moment he stepped on campus. Shep and Pope would have filled the '2' and '3' positions. He would have got more minutes next year than Sky, Chol, Shrigs, Z, DA and probably even Trey.

The staff asked Winston , Malik and the D. A ( no final word yet) to come back . we should be happy they are coming back and time to max out their skills. time to get Skylar involved in the offense , and JH to deliver the basketball to them . start working on an up tempo offense , that scores the basketball. Put Kell back at his natural position SG and battle with Shrigley to see if either or both can produce consistently .if not that work Z or the DA in the line up. Mark T is off to Arizona . so there is no debate about his PT at SDSU. Hope we can sign Narain for 15 or 16 . Work with BJ . Sign a transfer if the coaches think it will help for 2015 or 2016 . Get ready for 2015 season , seeing who is going to step up . there is still a lot of talent there , now develop it into a SW16 team or better .

I think Kell is our starting PG next year (and Shrigley at SG) and Hemsley comes off the bench backing up both spots. Hemsley will likely be a little turnover prone at first while adjusting to the speed of the game so he won't likely be asked to do too much ... but if he can get buckets, or get to the FT line, he'll play minutes next year ... probably around 12-15/game.
I'm not sure Kell expected to be playing PG this time last year ... but he is now, and he did a pretty solid job considering it was his first time playing PG as a college freshman. But he knows what he needs to work on and he will have a whole summer to perfect his craft.

JH was recruited to be the PG this year , let him have at it . He played it all through HS and has been a team leader . Needs to have the opportunity to develop ,that should start from day 1. Need a guy that has great not decent court vision , pushes the basketball, creating opportunities for his team mated to score .or create his own shot. If not there is DW as a back up . Kell was brought here as a SG . Score the basketball . He tried PG last year was maybe adequate, but it ruined his scoring stats . We need a consistent SG so let him go back to his natural game and battle Shrigley for the SG . We need a consistent scorer from the SG , it does not need to be a 3 point shooter but a guy or guys that can score 12 or more points a game . Need Kell to get his scoring back , also decent at going to the basket and 70 % FT . He spent so much time working on the PG duties he lost his skills at scoring .

We could still use a deadeye outside shooter.
If there was a transfer available who could bring that, they could make an impact here. We all know how dangerous our team is when we make some shots. Ask St. John's!

Yes, I agree about the need for a shooter. But, remember, our guys are still developing and growing in the off season. It's my belief they will become the guys we needed last season; along with the influx of new blood waiting their turns.

Aztecs need an OFFENSIVE presence in the low block, a leader, basketball IQ and a transition game with the type of athletes that have been recruited. Walking the ball up the Court and running a pick and roll OFFENSE is not maximizing players abilities. It is going to be interesting to watch this new ERA of Aztecs players going forward.

Agreed, Miners. Kell walking the ball up court and running pick and rolls or isolation does not maximize his nor his teammates skill sets. Your son is a gamer and did a lot for this team. His impact on the game would have been greatly reduced had he been asked to be the main man at the point. I view a Kell as potentially having a similar game and I'd like to see that realized.

Hoobs has the starting line up nailed . plus the reserve at each position . With BJ either on the job training or red shirting to SDSU.. Sign Narain , recruit for 2016 . we are going to need to reload quickly. As the team will need to replace 3 starters . If a can't miss transfer is there for 2015 or 16 , but can we stop thinking a sharp shooting scorer is coming . Time for the guys we have to make it or break it . Let's go up tempo and simple slogan: Finish any shot you take .

We're still loaded... 5: Spencer, Chol 4: WS3, Zylan 3: Pope, Allen 2: Kell, Shrigley 1: Hemsley, Williams Having Hemsley with Kell in the backcourt is great because Kell can handle the ball better than, say Shrigley, to help the freshman out. I also think Shepard is better off in JJ's old position than SG. Only bad thing is he'd have to the top rebounder in that lineup
