The good thing about playing a quality team on Sep. 5 is it would actually put 40,000 in the seats because a good team would have some sort of traveling fan base plus draw more Aztec fans so the pay out would be great.

This has been discussed, but I'm not aware that any definitive announcement has been made relative to getting a 12th game on the FB schedule for Fall. Frankly, this is not good. That 12th game would likely be a home game, since it would not make sense to make the team travel 7 times and play at home only 5 times. It's getting pretty late in the day to set up another game. What's up? AzWm We've been through all this but here it is again. At the LOI event in Feb. I was told by a knowledgeable Dept. source that we had a game planned but not finalized for Sept. 5 with a MAC opponent. Not named. Then through a perfect storm of nothing going right that team bailed for a better payday in the Big 10 or Big 12 leaving the Aztecs with the opening at a late date even then. Now they are still unable to find an FBS or even FCS opponent with Sept. 5 available. There is nothing good about an 11 game schedule. Then, for awhile they thought they had Montana State but MSU is still hoping to book a P5 payday road game much more lucrative than what the Aztecs had to offer. And, if they can't they don't really want to come here to play us. A lot of teams don't actually. So, when I was at the spring ball scrimmage one of the Aztec Club staffers engaged me in the season ticket chat and I reminded her that we still only had five home games and are they going to fill Sept. 5. She said yes of course, but I asked "when?" she said "August." This led me to believe she had no clue what she was talking about. So unless something remarkable happens, we are headed for Cal as our first game with them already having played vs. Grambling State. That could be bad to ugly if you remember how first games usually go. Finally, for education purposes here, making out a schedule when a short term hole develops as it did for SDSU is very tough. The better teams want a big payday or a guaranteed easy win and SDSU can't provide either. Yes, I know Wyoming for example has home/home vs. P5 teams but that was set up years ago. Our 2016 is schedule is set and 2017 only has one spot remaining. This is a very unfortunate situation and daily I hope for a mini-miracle that someone appears for our opener on Sept. 5.

No problem, I just found three possible teams: Whittier College, Occidental and/or Cal Lutheran and travel isn't an issue.
I was also thinking about CSU Fullerton, Long Beach, Northridge or UCI and there's crosstown rival UCSD, none of those schools have football scheduled on September 5th.

Mills College has nothing scheduled that week, and it's possible even Bob Toledo's offense could score on them.

Sounds like a fiasco in the making. Have they collected money for season tickets based on five or six games? Does the price just stay the same regardless of the number of games? I would guess so rather than having to deal with refunds, etc.

I'm assume you are facetious about the top three, but you might be closer to the end product than you know. There is a jaw dropping rumor as to who it might be. If that happened, tongues and keyboards would wag.

San Diego has No. Arizona on Sept 5 (at USD) How much would we have to pay USD to give up a home game? Would we have to pay off NAU for the loss of the game at this late date? My assumption is that we'd have to pay USD enough money to pay NAU and have enough left over for themselves to make it worth the trouble. I don't think it's USD

Just putting this out there ... I think North Dakota State has an opening on Sept 5th Most FCS teams only schedule 11 regular season games and NDSU already have their 11 ... They have no FBS teams on their schedule, maybe they could be bought???

Does anyone know of a list with possible teams? It can't be a very extensive list this late in the game, more a matter of dates...

No grew up in San Diego and graduated in 96.Went to Chico Ca Butte college or tried to the parties up there were crazy so we were pretty out of control in the new arena. When I got back and realized the potential of the program with Fish as the coach(fab 5) recruiter my friends and I were hooked.Al Fox winning the MWC tourney(was in Vegas),Storming the floor beating Utah are the early memories as the team got better every year. Now all the team needs are a couple of Mcdonalds all americans and we will be in the final four.

The truth about scheduling issues is this is a product of us going to the BIg East. We also do not have money to throw around and this is why we are in the situation.

Or... that we had an agreement on a game but the other party backed out REAL late and now we're left scrambling. However, yes... lack of $$$ to buy OOC home games is a big issue as well.

we got 4 OoC games scheduled for 2016, but this better not happen again in 2017 where we only have 3 OoC games right now ...
Regarding this year, whatever the exigence -- we may be down to 2 options if we can't find an FBS or FCS opponent:
go with 11 games, because only games against FCS or FBS teams count towards bowl eligibility or schedule a D-II team for a tune-up, knowing it wouldn't count
