Coaching B QB Katz A-,sometimes waits too long other wise great runner good passer, also the little I saw of Dingwell makes me think he will be good next year.. OL Big disapointment drive blocking is a C+ pass Blocking a D Runningback A great combo Muema and kazee. WR;. B- they can get open still drop too many balls, and do not make some plays they should. No Brown Sampson yet, although I think Ruffin will get there. TE B+ not making the great catches but do what they are expected. Grade overall B Defense Coaching D Dline C- decent aginst the run not enough pressure against the pass Linebackers C see above Safetys C good against run not so good against pass, but faced three good QBs CB B Mcfaden and A Wade a C_ but Holder looks like the is really coming on.. special teams D p punitng average kickoffs average, way to many screw ups. Overall grade C- Team C- Average thy name is Aztec Season Outlook? likely wins CSU,UNLV,Air Force likley Loss :Nevada (has lousy defense but will put up 600 yards against us) Sure Loss :Boise State Toss Up :Wyoming(each geam has beaten the other on the road) Brett Smith can beat th Aztecs single handed but Cowboy defense is awful. final prediction 7-5 if we beat Wyoming and 6-6 if we do not HUGE DISAPOINTMENT either way. and I really do not cae if we go to the Tidy Bowl in Flushing Meadows. ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png) Give me our grades

Well said, have to agree. I'd call the team a bit of a disappointment thus far and think C- is about right. We will see who, if anyone, comes of age during the balance of the season. I seem to remember Rocky saying something about not expecting this team to start developing until mid season. Let's see if there is improvement, there is certainly room for it. I won't dispute all those letter grades, but I do think that 7-5 would be an acceptable finish for this team. Perhaps not gratifying, but acceptable. I say that because it appears to me that the 2012 Aztecs were overrated by a number of us.
What we need is a string of seasons in which 8 wins is the baseline, with 9 or 10 wins every second or third year. The BE will definitely be tough. Right now, I suspect that unbiased observers would put us in the lower half of the new BE. Can't say that I would dispute that prediction much.
It boils down to this; SDSU must improve its FB program in every way to compete successfully in the future. That means everything from coaching to game day amenities. And especially player recruitment.

Heh, this team reminds me of Luginbill's teams during his era.
Great offense with a lousy, blitzing defense. Basketball scores were normal.
Oldie Out

bottom half? I'd imagine the press poll will have us right next to Memphis next year

A 7-5 season is not acceptable with the easiest schedule we have seen in many, many years. The HC is also the DC ......get this Defense into a functional group. The ST are a disaster in all phases.....the punting last night looked like Jr. HS.

bottom half? I'd imagine the press poll will have us right next to Memphis next year Current Sagarin ratings, this is about the time where all of last years data or almost all of it is wiped out 1. BSU (18) 2. Cincy (28) 3. Rutgers (33) 4. Louisville (43) 5. UCF (50) 6. Temple (63) 7. SDSU (67) (guessing this is helped a ton by army game) 8. SMU (68) 9. USF (71) 10. Uconn (73) 11. Houston (92) 12. Memphis (166) Even with Rocky expecting them all the way at the bottom is strange.

Coaching is a huge part of this, look at what happened to Houston and Southern Miss this year. They will not make changes this year unless we end up 4-8. I thnk 4-8 might be our record next year.

Insider reminds me of something. Is Skip Holtz doing a terrible job at USF or what? 5-7 a year ago and favored by many to win the BE this year and they lose at Nevada and Temple and just barely squeek by Ball State. And they're paying Skipper big, big bucks. LOL.
As to the topic at hand, I agree with the C- grade overall. It will improve to a C for me if we finish 7-5 as I thought we would before the season and think we will now. And no, blow sunshine up folks' asses posters, 7-5 is not more deserving than a satisfactory grade of C. Not with this schedule.

I'm convinced that if this staff stays intact, we will be worse than 4-8 next year considering the much tougher schedule and breaking in an inexperienced QB. Knowing SDSU, THEN we'll replace half the assistants. Attention Sterk and Hirshman: You guys need to open up the wallet to allow Rocky to hire a DC and replace a few assistants.

After building USF's football program, Jim Leavitt went 34-18 his final three years. After going 8-5 his first year with Leavitt's players, Holtz has gone 7-11 since despite having BJ Daniels, who has been the starter since halfway through 2009 and whose name came up on some pre-season Heisman lists, at QB.
Speaking of Leavitt, he remains unemployed after being fired for lying to USF's administration about an incident in the locker room in 2009. That was a bad offense, I'll grant you, but somebody who takes a chance on the guy is going to hire themselves a very good HC.

I don't see what preseason heisman lists he has been on, everytime I watch Daniels I notice he has very poor accuracy, misses a lot of simple intermediate throws.

6-6 will likely be good enough to get into a bowl this year. MWC has 5 bowl tie ins - might not have 5 eligible teams
UNR, CSUF, BSU all have 4 or 5 wins, they are all going to bowls SDSU and UNM have 3, AFA 2 wins
Davie might be performing a 'miracle' year 1 at UNM with about 65 scholly players - they have Hawaii and AFA next two weeks, still have UNLV, WYO and CSU. That AFA UNM game might be for a bowl.

oh, forgot, UNM has 13 games, so they need to win 7, the MWC might not have enough eligible teams

Attention Sterk and Hirshman: You guys need to open up the wallet to allow Rocky to hire a DC and replace a few assistants. "Allow" Rocky to hire a DC? That is rich. If we're hiring a DC, it's because we have a new head coach. He's going to hire a DC puppet to save his job, he's going to blame the special teams coach and fire him. Deck Chairs, Deck Chairs.

Only conclusion is we should hire Bob Davie, if he can be .500 at UNM then we know he will be great here

Only conclusion is we should hire Bob Davie, if he can be .500 at UNM then we know he will be great here It's no stretch to say Locksley was one of the worst head football coaches in NCAA history. Compared to Locksley, Chuck Long was Vince Lombardi. So I don't want to burst UNM fans' bubble of excitement over defeating the likes of Texas State but you or I could have improved Lobos football. Back to the issue of Rocky's staff, since he can't fire all the players, you have to think he will at least fire the coach. Oh and it's time to return punting duties to Joel Allesi.
