I could see it in his face in the itnerview after the game. now that being said why do we not stop the vitriol and crap. he was hied because the players wanted him and respected him and Brady left in a hurry. He is a good man and a decent coach but he was always a place keeper unless he took the team ot the enxt level. He knew that and so did administration. he has been coaching along time and he did not apply for any head jobs after New Mexico.
He took a shot and it did not work. He is not the kind of guy with a huge ego,he is about as straight shooter as you can get. Some of you sound like you want anybody over sixty to be put down like car crushed possum.
If he does go I can guarantee he will do it with dignity and help with the transition. Also as far as Brady was concerned he had Lindley and Sampson and Brown who caught all those bombs, and Hillman. How would have done the next year? he was the one that hired Coach Long. So lets root for our Aztecs live with the results, and try not to sound like a cross between byu and SC fans.

He is happiest as a D-Coordinator. He should just resign, and request to stay on as the D-Coordinator

Good post. I think we can all limit the nasty stuff, but nothing wrong with calling for a change.
I wouldn't even necessarily be opposed to him returning next season, but I do not support him staying on as D-Co. He needs to hire a good coordinator and let the man call it his way. Not just be the DC in title only.
I don't know of anyone who can really disagree with that. We need a change on that side of the ball.

I don't see his pride letting him continue beyond this year. Actually I have a suspicion (and hope) that he'll be asked to resign within weeks.

Rocky said exactly that when he first came to SDSU. I continue to think the man is a very good DC. The problem now is the same as Craft had. Craft is a very good OC and he might even be a good OC-HC combo at the JUCO level. But although some here still fail to realize it, that's a whole 'nother world from FBS football. I'd be fine with Rocky hanging around and working as the DC for a new HC. However, the chances of that are slim. A new guy is very likely going to want to bring both his coordinators with him.

I have a hard time believing he'd be "happier" as a DC. Just sounds silly to me.

He was quite content to be DC until Hoke left. If the team keeps playing this way he might be neither. If he resigns at the end of the year it would be the second time he quit a HC job.

There is no way he is going to resign in the middle of the season. I just don't think he is a quitter.

He quit bc the administration quit on him... If I remember correctly.

Hopefully, this post will prompt the HM (i.e. head moderator) to remove "my warning level."
Two years ago I was able to watch majority of Aztecs football games via the MWC Network. Aztecs current HC was the DC.
I am not a football expert, but it appeared to me that Aztecs offense was able to move the ball effectively and put points on the scoreboard.
However, Aztecs Defense always had a tough time keeping their opponents out of the enzone (sp?). I made a post stating that Hoke should get a new DC.
Now, I come on the Board and there are several posts calling for HC to resign and etc.. But, after watching HC over the last few years and listenting to his interviews, it seems to me that Coach Long is a straight shooter.
So, I say give him a few more years to work with the group of players he recruited and afford him the opportunity to work his plan.
Aztecs basketball HC teams struggled the first couple of years, but he was given the opportunity to "work his plan."
Aztecs football HC should be given the same opportunity. I hope Aztecs football HC continues as it is still a lot of football left to play.
As I always like to state, Rocky Long is not out on the FIELD playing the game. Yes, he is the Head Coach and responsible for Wins and Losses.
But, the players are the ones on the FIELD playing the game and not the football HC or his assistants Coaches! Maybe the PLAYERS need to step up their game!
