wanting to keep football in the mountain west has nothing to do with the football program. Ok, dad got a new job that pays 10 times what he used to make. We are going to have to move to a smaller town, and yes you will leave some friends behind, but I am sure you will make some new ones. Your going to be the best athlete in your new school, so people will both love and hate you. We will have a bigger and better house for the entire family, which is best for the family. Now if we stay here, we are not going to be able to make the mortgage payment and probably lose the house. As a matter of fact dad's job security is not too stable here and if loses his job then we will definitely have to move out of town without the new income. I know its a tough sacrifice for you, but we have faith in you that you will succeed in you new home because your a great athlete. Lol, that's the winner right there.

so Alumtec, will we be hearing this all day the next time SDSU makes a visit to Hattiesburg? You win today's dunce cap. "Come and listen to my story 'bout a man named Jed, a poor MOUNTAINEER . . ."

You win today's dunce cap. "Come and listen to my story 'bout a man named Jed, a poor MOUNTAINEER . . ." Supposedly good ol' Jed came from the Ozarks. Anyways, Hattiesburg is some 320 miles away from Lineville, Alabama. I mention this because... "Cheaha Mountain in Lineville, Alabama is the highest point in the state. Located in the foothills of the Appalachians, Cheaha is a 2,799-acre mountaintop retreat." lcweb2.loc.gov/diglib/legacies/AL/200002660.htmlHattiesburg is also about 350 miles south of Arkadelphia, Arkansas - which is at the foothill of the Ouachita Mountains (this range stretches from central Arkansas into southern Oklahoma). While it isn't technically in mountain ranges, they can be reached in a reasonable amount of time. And even putting all this aside, that music is good ol' southern charm at its finest.

Ozarks, Appalachians, whatever. The highest mountain in West Virginia isn't even 5K feet. There's a hill in Burbank that big. Those yokels back there wouldn't know a real mountain if it felt on top of them.

Old fart. ;D College football has changed and geography has gone out the window for just about every conference. Although the BE is perhaps the most impacted, the move will give our football program a chance to survive and will help pad the rest of our athletic programs for the future. It’s so simple why don’t they get it? 1).The program is simply moving from one unsettled conference to another. 2).I don't believe ultimately the money that will be offered will be enough to make any significant long term contribution to the stability of the athletic program. I believe there are a lot of "inherent challenges" facing SDSU football, (ranging from fan support to leadership to industry respect..), that may not necessarily be addressed simply with more money. It would be tantamount to pouring a butt load of money into LAX. There's just so much you can do with it. It is....what it is. 3). Yes, the MW will lack a "national relevance". So? I'm to assume the new BE have more relevance? Don't think so. I do believe there will be a number of programs in the MW that could have "top 25" potential. I would think, that's all the relevance one football program would need. 4). Leading to my fourth and final point. I sincerely believe SDSU will have the same challenges and failures finding success in the BE as it did in the WAC and the MW. But I do believe the Aztec football program would have had a better chance of success, (and I'm not talking a 17-9 record over mostly lousy teams over the last two years) if it had stayed in the MW. An earlier post mentions that coverage in the BE conference member cities will have to include SDSU. Of course, that isn't gonna do much good if the team sucks. Yes, I'm an old fart, but I bet I'm having a hell of a lot more fun at this stage of my life than you are. Fact is, football, NFL and college, just ain't as much fun anymore. The NFL has become a hatchet league and, well, we know where college football is going. Though I will be at the "mountain top" again this weekend in Arlington, Texas and my brother-in-law has still assured me I'll have access to any TCU football game I want to attend, I'm pretty certain this old fart will be going to a hell of a lot more hockey games this year than football games..I've earned it

I really do not like what the BE move did to our basketball team (putting them in the crappy BW). However, I see no evidence that your point #2 has any factual evidence behind it. The BE move with its TV contract will likely strengthen all our sports programs and save football. The California Government is so screwed up that funds for football will probably dwindle to nothing. I am hoping that there will be further frustration from the western schools that are relevant and that we will get a BE Western league for Oly sports or a separate league all together for Oly sports.
