Actually statistically it's stupid to punt on 4th and short, I read an article a year or so ago and not punting would yield more points etc...
Punting is kinda like the sac bunt in baseball

Belichick almost nevers punts either. He called a pass play on fourth down against the Colts a few years ago on the Pats' 30 and failed to make it. But that's the only fourth down play I recall that the Pats did not convert to a first down. I also really like the onsides kick especially at the start of the game. Most defenses are totally unprepared for an onsides kick at the start of the game.

Totally. Like the guy isn't going to punt 4th and 10 from our 30. Even Air Force punts then. We may go for it more but Seamus will be needed.

Punting or attempting a FG on 4th down is done way too much by rote. I think the Aztecs would have won the New Orleans bowl using this strategy.

Punting is kinda like the sac bunt in baseball As in, it is often the correct thing to do but way overused. There are 3 times when a pitcher doesn't attempt a sacrifice bunt. 1. No one on base. 2. Two outs. 3. Runner at second and one out. If bunts were punts, football coaches would punt in those situations. A 4th situation: it is not his turn to bat. A 5th situation: Babe Ruth is the pitcher (or good hitting pitcher).

Very doubtfull he will totally abandon the punt, but I have been saying for years it makes no sense to punt on 4th and less than 10 on the opponents side of the field. Most of the time your punter kicks it into the endzone anyway so you only gain 20-30 yards with the punt, many times less.

We will see, McMorrow is a really good kicker, I could see us kicking a lot more than he expects because we will be in a lot of close games.

There's a high School coach in Arkansas (Pulasiki Academy, I think) that's pioneered this approach and it's worked out very well for him. He did a study that basically indicated that most of the time you only give up a TD even if you turn the ball over on downs deep in your territory 15% more of the time than if you punt and that time of possession is far more important than most people realize. But Pulasiki is a dominate private school program that recruits all over the south east. I looked it up: sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2011/writers/scorecasting/09/15/kelley.pulaski/index.html

Greg Easterbrook, espn writer, Tuesday Morning Quarterback, has been an advocate of this for years. I think he has it broken down for what you have to go in regards to where you are on the field.

Rocky Long is a marketing genius - allow absolutely no coverage of your team, throw out one comment to try to keep Washington on their toes, and reel in the fish
