Our O-line better push some people around. I'm eager to see our frosh RB's do some damage. The last time we had a pair of dangerous frosh RBs: Marshall Faulk and Wayne Pittman.

Unless our offense gift wraps points for them, if they score 17 our defense should be expected to be even worse than a year ago. 38-9

I give you Southern Utah. 35-19. First game of season never goes according to plan (although that was our second last year). I expect some mistakes and/or some late scores by Nicholls State against reserves in mop up time. Unless our offense gift wraps points for them, if they score 17 our defense should be expected to be even worse than a year ago. 38-9

As I've said with regard to my concern about Utah State, the best way to counteract a 3-3-5 defense is with a mobile QB who can throw on the run. Southern Utah had such a guy last year who was good enough to have been on scholarship at BYU before transferring. At least to my knowledge, Nicholls State doesn't have a quarterback who is anywhere near that talented.

Well I'll admit that I haven't brushed up on my scouting of the Colonels. And the Utah St. game is no gimme either. My view of NMSU has more to do with us rather than them. Something all three games have in common. With that said, I'll stand by my prediction. I give you Southern Utah. 35-19. 1) Well I'll admit that I haven't brushed up on my scouting of the Colonels. 2) And the Utah St. game is no gimme either. My view of NMSU has more to do with us rather than them. Something all three games have in common. I'll stand by my prediction. 1) That's because unlike me, you have a life. So let me help out. Our year-end Sagarin was 103. Louisiana Tech's was 89, so they were a bit better than we were on that basis. Here's the box score from Nicholls' trip there last year: geauxcolonels.cstv.com/sports/m-footbl/stats/2009-2010/lt0919.html#GAME.INDNote that although it ended 48-13, halfway through the fourth quarter when LA Tech presumably cleared its bench, the score was 41-3. Also consider that Nicholls was only playing about 166 miles from home rather than 2,000 and in the same time zone rather than three time zones away. 2) You know my thinking on Utah State. Their QB gives me great concern, as does their JC-transfer wideout Matt Austin, who redshirted at USU in 2009 and received scholarship offers coming out of HS which were more impressive than any of the guys we will be starting. (Thankfully it appears they don't have all that much else and of what they do have, camp reports posted on their board indicate injuries and the dropsies have been problematic so we should be able to double cover Austin, who sure looks like he could be Miles Austin's little brother.) www.sltrib.com/sltrib/sports/50081001-77/austin-season-foot-utah.html.csp
