I hate over-confidence. It always bites us in the ass. Even if we win, we play to the level of competition and that has to stop. Go watch a few videos of the Michigan - Appalachian State upset game, that should put things into perspective. Sorry guys, after losing to Cal Poly (twice) we have no business thinking we're all that, IMHO. You must "RESPECT" all competition and play them hard consistently. Oldie Out Nicholls State SHOULD be a gimme, but you are quite right. It's the NEW MEXICO STATE game that will show me whether we're going in the right direction under Hoke. This is the Ex-O Captain, and I concur! I've always said.....to me, a turnaround will be winning the games we're supposed to, and stealing one we are dogs in.

We should beat Nicholls State by five touchdowns.

Cal Poly was ranked in the top 25 and chasing a BCS bowl bid, a loss to them was like There were no odds on the game here in the U.S., but Caliente had it as a 1 point game. A friend of mine who coaches football had seen both teams work out and said Cal Poly was a little more athletic than us and he didn't know if we could beat them or not. On the other hand, Nicholls State is horrible. I don't know where the hell you came up with that LSU comment, but Cal Poly did go to Wisconsin in the last game that season on the road and took them to OT. We weren't supposed to blow out Cal Poly. They were as good as we were that season. State was lucky to be in the game. Without a doubt State was the inferior team. It was actually the coaching that gave us a shot. I have never said that. I said the teams were dead even and that Cal Poly was not the pushover some of you think they were. On your post.....Not sure what your point is. It certainly isn't accurate.

State was lucky to be in the game. Without a doubt State was the inferior team. It was actually the coaching that gave us a shot. Without a doubt, and to think how far we came in 3 years - in year one we realized how far behind in talent of a 1aa school we were by losing to them and in 20 some short games we were able to admirably close the gap to where only a late field goal on our home field allowed them to squeak out the win and set the stage for an 8 game losing streak. That is because the group of players that played Cal Poly were frosh and redshirt frosh.....And on top of that many of them got injured. Now, those same players are Juniors. Big difference. What has happened in 20 short games??? -We have a different staff that appears to be better (and I think they are) than the previous staff. -But more than that, the players from the Chuck Long teams are now more mature, bigger, stronger, and because they are becoming upper classmen have more confidence.

For the record, Cal Poly finished the 2008 season ranked #97 by Sagarin: www.usatoday.com/sports/sagarin/fbc08.htmWhat I now find funny as hell (though I sure didn't at the time) is that OUR ranking was worse than all but one Sun Belt Conference team. That's how thoroughly awful WE were in 2008.

He had 3 years after losing the first time to get better talent, coach them better and be a better coach than a D1aa school, that is unacceptable. And it sure seems that they are stronger because of Wellman and Co. and if left to his devices, they would be the same weaklings getting pushed around, quitting and getting hurt left and right.

Let us say all the opponents of the opponents play 2 D1a schools, which isn't likely to have happened, that is 22 total games against d1 and 90 percent of those are the statistical analogue of hearsay.

D-1 is D-1. D-1AA is d-1AA... NOT D-1. This is as usual a reach in discussion.
