The UT strikes again. How about something about the current teams outlook on the season? Or how hard they have been working all summer? Or the new recruits?
I have no idea how anyone on this board can defend that paper? No question the UT is the worst home-town coverage of local D1 college sports in the nation!

Yes, it is horrible when it comes to Aztecs coverage. However, I have no problem with this story running in the UT.

"Ikonne’s suit states that Sharp Memorial Hospital didn’t test him for compartment syndrome, an emergency condition that followed his collapse. Those with sickle cell trait are believed to have an increased risk for compartment syndrome, which can lead to permanent muscle damage. Ikonne’s suit states that because the hospital failed to test him for compartment syndrome, he wasn’t properly treated for it and developed “serious and permanent injury to (Ikonne’s) right leg and otherwise.” The UT headlines the story how Ikonne collapsed in 2009 was due to the SDSU workout, but the in the story, the blame was put on the Sharp Memorial Hospital and the doctor who treated him. The title of the story is misleading.

Its truly sad that papers in Orlando and all over the rest of the U.S write stories positive stories about SDSU football and its players. Its truly a sad statement but a cold hard reality check of how poorly run, tasteless reporting, classless, negative, pessimistic, the UT is towards the AZTECS.... This story is not negative directly aimed towards SDSU, but good ol boy Scrotemburg finds a way to make the article seem as thought something else went wrong on the MESA...

Graney got out and were left with the Puke leftovers. Don't subscribe and ignore their comments=simple.
Big city that acts like a little town- they exemplify and promote that comment.

Something did go wrong on the Mesa. The kid collapsed and could have died. I don't know whose fault it was but the UT could have at least mentioned that we are expected to improve a lot this year even if this player is not on the team anymore.

Talk to the Fresno fans if you think your comment is accurate. But that aside, this: Ikonne’s father said previously that his son’s collapse was “totally avoidable” if school personnel had been aware Ikonne had sickle cell trait, which makes him susceptible to breakdowns during extended workouts. has become something of an issue among African-American athletes and I really don't see why you want to whine your ass off about how horrible it is that the U-T is pursuing something that's in the public domain, as every litigation is. =Bob

Actually, that would more describe Carlsbad; a city that has elected the same idiot mayor for something approaching two decades. And yeah, I did deal with Lewis when I was working at County Solid Waste so I know of what I write. =Bob

I wonder why we do not know about existing conditions of players. Should players with Sickle Cell disclose that fact? Do they? What should be the restrictions if any? The answers may explain why the lawyer did not go after SDSU. I don't like this kin of story, but do hope for the best for this former Aztec and hope that this story helps prevent this kind of incident. The author is noted. I also know that headline writers and not the writer are responsible for the headline. At least that was the case when a friend worked there years ago.

Boy, you guys spend a lot of time on the UT.
I'm not a UT supporter and believe they could be more supportive but do not believe they are "out to get" SDSU.
Winning, of course, will solve most problems including this one.

No Donna Frys here or City Attny that think they run the city.

Too pile on- those morons can't even get the news from TJ correct. Not even close most of the time.
Imagine a city of 3MM right within 15 miles and these morons write inaccurate statements at every turn. No confidence at all in the uTs journalistic integrity.

Did you expect them to ignore it. You guys are paranoid. How can they give full coverage to a team that does not allow reporters at practice?

Long before the internet and my obsession with aztec talk/mesa, I would religiously pour through the SD union every morning looking for storys about Aztec Football and others worthy news. I just realized that I haven't loged on to Signonsandiego.com or looked at an actual paper more than twice this year.
So my point is, I think the market is taking care of peoples issues with the SD Union.

It's news and it's Aztec related. It's also possible SDSU could be brought into the case by the doctor/hospital.

This would be a more accurate headline and an example of responsible news reporting...
Ex-Aztec files suit against Sharp Memorial and Dr. Kenneth Roth
Obviously "Brento" and his haters wanted to get SDSU in the headline, even though SDSU is not being sued. The fact that Sharp Memorial is first named in paragraph 6 and Dr. Kenneth Roth in paragraph 8, is proof of the intentions of "The SD Onion". For someone to ignore this obvious fact is unbelievable.

Not to pass the blame but last September's article states....... "Ikonne's family previously knew he inherited the trait from his mother. It is screened for at birth in the United States. It is a generally benign condition — not to be confused with sickle cell anemia — that many people, including pro athletes, carry without incident throughout life. It's a matter of being aware of it. If not, death can result after overexertion." www.sduniontribune.com/news/2009/sep/25/sdsu-linemans-dad-hopes-near-tragedy-wake-call/Ikonne's family knew of the condition and did not report it to the team. Why would he put his son in a position to be seriously hurt? I have a daughter and if she had ANY kind of condition (benign or not), that could possibly put her in danger, I would ABSOLUTELY let important decision makers know about it.
