I cant think of any gimmicks (well the German beer post on another board was a helluva idea!)or deals that would entice fans / more fans and students to SDSU games except to bring in teams that would generate a bit of excitement. Sorry -Nicholas State and home and homes with a Utah State and or New Mexico State no matter how good some of these teams may be , aint cutting it for the passive fans.
I am going to try and keep it "real" here meaning that getting a Home and home contract with a say Notre Dame or a Ohio state, Or a LSU is not remotely going to happen. especially in these economic times.
I am asking you to post 4 schools you would like to see -ahem- PAY TICKETS to see play at the Q. You should also take into considerations the opponents fan base as they too are needed to help populate the joint. I am not greedy I am trying to get 40 to 50 g at the Q..
Building a winner is fine- But creating excitement -especially now- is paramount
1. Navy- Obvious tie in with San Diego plus they are a great club
2. Fresno State- those old enough will remember the good ol WAC days . Their fan base is very supportive and would drive down . And more importantly , enough is enough . Gotta nip that bud .Last year alone they signed 5 Sd County kids. Its Freaking fresno!- no offense!
3. Cal --Seems like every other person in this county that didn't graduate from State graduated from there. Currently they play the likes of Davis and Reno non conference. Easy plane ride for the away game as well.
4. UCLA - For whatever reason, past games have been at least exciting for a while. Proximity. Past Games at the q had 40 plus vs Bruins.....

Here's the home games already on the schedule: Washington St at SDSU Sept 17, 2011 Our horrifically long losing streak against teams from AQ conferences will end that day. You can bet the house on it.

This term "cupcake" should not be used around here. SDSU, currently a cupcake, can't call other schools cupcakes until it is not itself a cupcake

Scheduled road games include:
Army Navy Cincinnati Oregon St Michigan
Yes, there are cupcakes but there are also challenging games in addition to annual conference games vs ranked TCU, Utah, BYU and now Boise St.

1. Fresno State 2. USC 3. UCLA 4. Arizona or Arizona State
At a minimum one of these teams should be on our schedule every year. Fresno would be a rivalry game so maybe schedule at the end of the season with USC or UCLA starting the season.

Concur with what you say, southbaysucker. Playing and defeating the Nickels of the world will do zero for our fan base or attendance. We're caught, however, in the proverbial catch-22. If we schedule decent opponents we have an even worse won/loss record. On the other hand, scheduling the cupcakes--which, of course we are also--inflates the won/lost percentage and maybe gets us to some third class bowl and a couple extra bucks to float the rest of the athletic dept. 'Tis a sorry state of affairs, to that I will confess. I cannot abide our current schedule, nor can I abide our current level of competitiveness. To play teams I'd like to see would just lead to more losses. But, to answer your question, what four teams would I personally like to see my Aztecs play, that's fairly easy: 1. The Golden Bears of California. 2. Westwood High Bruins 3. Stanferd 4. As always, Hawaii because I like the road trips and that's about the only reason (since this is a thread about what I would like, I don't need the usual lectures that follow comments about having Hawaii on the schedule.). Meanwhilist, and enduring our crummy schedule for 2010, PLEASE BRADY, FIX THIS!!!!! The Fred Noonan School of Navigation.

The Fred Noonan School of Navigation. I think presently football is the main concern. The rest of the athletic department could be fix- I can argue- without its existence.. I just think they need to be a bit more desperate in trying to keep /revive this thing. I dont think the program is relevant even in its home town

Absolutely nothing wrong with the upcoming schedules projecting for 2011, 2012, etc.
The LAST thing we need is to prematurely bulk up the schedule, knocking a 6-6 season back to 5-7, or knocking a 7-5 or 8-4 season back to 6-6.
One toughie. One easy. Two moderate but very winable challenges.
