USC in about 2-3 years, right in the middle of their much-deserved sanctions for fielding pro teams for the last eight years.
We will be on the upswing, SC will be scrambling for the depth on their teams. How many blue chippers will commit to SC in the next two years (and how many will say audios in the next year) when they know there is no bowl game?
Granted if the NCAA on appeal rolls over on either the schollies reduction or post-season bowl ban then it may just be a bump in the history of SC.
GO AZTECS!!!!

You are all missing the point. The point is, too find opponents that you can beat, that would still bring a crowd. 1. ASU -they are in shambles with DE. They might be ripe for the picking. 2. WSU- worst pac12 team-still not a game sdsu would be favored. But winnable 3. Navy- at this point they would be an upset if sdsu won but again if you can't start winning these games then what? 4. Fresno-should play every year. 5. UCLA- sooner or later you need to compete here. Fair comments. So, I'd amend my priorities slightly: 1) Whatever/whomever gets us to a minimum of a 7-win season. 2) Butts-in-the-seats. 3) Whatever/whomever gets us to a 8 or 9-win season. 4) More 'marquee' names.

I've got a couple for you guys, travel would be a bit of a #$%#$ but it would give the Aztecs some AQ teams for the sched. ACC: Clemson, UNC, Virginia. Virginia and UNC would likely do homes and homes with the Aztecs. UNC has some open dates that I know of(thanks Michigan) and i'd prefer the Heels play an FBS tean instead of William and Mary. But i'm not the AD lol. SEC: Ole Miss, South Carolina, Tennessee. I believe Ole Miss and Tennessee have both, in the past, done the home and home deal with Wyoming. If Wyoming, why not the Aztecs? San Diego >>> Laramie. South Carolina, like Clemson could be had for home and homes also imo.

Once we go to a bowl game, then we can talk about upgrading the schedule

If the Aztecs were drilling teams, people would come out regardless of the opponent. Luginbill's teams were usually around .500 but people came to see the Aztecs put up 40-50 points.
If the team is exciting, it will draw. If the team sucks, you need a marquee opponent to draw.

I think we need the Kstate approach for at least a couple of years. Get your OOC wins with some easier games and do well in your conference and get to bowl games annually. Go to bowl games, and get better recruits and then start upgrading the schedule.
