If the Cowpies could get to a bowl last year.......and win with a new coaching staff, new system and a true Frosh QB then there is no excuses for us not doing it in the 2nd year with a redshirt Jr. QB with 2 yrs experience. No excuses....this team needs to go to a bowl.........this year!

I'm looking forward to the year after next because we'll win 16 games: 2-4-8-16
I hope for continued discipline, better conditioning and strength, a stronger mind that doesn't get rattled when teams make runs in the 4th/2nd quarters, SDSU not coming out jittery in the first drive/first quarter of some other games, and some seasoning from the younger players.
It would be great if we could jump out 3-1, go 3-1 the stretch after byu, be bowl eligible and see a loose Aztec team play the last 3 games to compete and develop.

Steve often balances on a thin line between raising expectations and hope and crashing the unexpecting into disappointment and discouragement. I like his challenge to consider eight wins. Its fun to think about. Yet I can't lose my head and buy in just yet.
Conversely, I won't buy in to any arguement that assumes injury and depth issues before they actually happen. Nor will I prescribe to any theory that uses x number of years of underperformance as a reason the team will not perform this year.
I prefer to remain positive on the outlook for this years team. There are a number of areas that will be exciting to watch for improvement. Lets kick back and enjoy watching what this years group of players can accomplish.
If you want to dream a little I say go for it. Just keep your expectations practical.

I think we all will. 8 wins requires: 3-1 OOC Beat AFA at home. Beat Wyo on the road. Beat UNM on the road. Beat UNLV and CSU at home. I think we can do any of those. But 8 wins requires us doing ALL of those. If we don't do all of those we need to beat Missouri, TCU, Utah, or BYU. The two of those who would be easiest are both on the road. 8 wins would be a great year - it is a tall order. But progress is not always steady. Sometimes there are big jumps. This year could see one of those jumps for the Aztecs. The pieces are in place. We need some luck and confidence. Well said! AzWm

6-7W's. The whole season hinges on 3-1 preseason and an AF win. The comments mentioned I agree- the concern and only REAL concern is the OLine (lay that on the lap of the previous "recruiting genious").
-NM will be HORRIBLE -BYU off a bunch -CSU too many holes to fill yet well coached -AF lots of holes yet they always just reload and you need to get them late as they have little depth -Wyo still a mystery as why we gave that game away -Lower Las Vergas- team in dissaray yet the staff (ones NOT in jail) are solid
6 wins and a bowl.

There have been a lot of football teams that went from very few wins to a great season. Football teams don't necessarily improve via a straight line as most on this site seem to think must happen.
Last year the Aztecs were real close to 6-6 and taking Wyoming's spot in the bowl game. We can improve on that 6-6. Last year at this time we didn't give our boys a shot at beating CSU on the road or UNM at home. Things change. This year we will be the big change.

Absolutely 100% incorrect. As I have said for a long time.....I post my true feelings. I can't help how some of you (in your warped minds) interpret them.

Well, I don't think Wyoming will go winless in the conference like CSU did but I agree they could slip considerably. Although they never lost a game by less than 10 points, they won five of them by a TD or less. Good coaching? Sure, but a lot of luck too. Also, they have a murderous 6-game stretch early where except maybe at Toledo, they will be the underdog in each one. BIG underdog in several.

How about we wait until after fall camp before we start thinking about 8 wins.
Some of you have already convinced yourselves that 3-1 OOC is pretty much a given, it isn't. We won't waltz into NMSU and take that game without a challenge. USU won't be a cake walk either. Hell, we don't even know how good our many of our positions are yet, let alone the team.
It's way too premature to start thinking about more than 6 wins.

I think the team will be focused and ready to practice after the Coryell Memorial today. Every current Aztec should all realize that they are part of a great legacy. Coach Hoke needs to instill in his players that they need to live up to that legacy. Emotion is a big part of football and it wouldn't surprise me if this team wins 9 or 10 games this year.
The talent is there, the coaching is there and it is time to win in spades.

From what I remember, Hoke makes his team very aware of the history of Aztec football and its 17(?) championships. Coach Hoke needs to instill in his players that they need to live up to that legacy.

So who are the 5 or more losses and why?

Steve is posing a question, not stating a fact. Can we win 8? Of course. Whoever said Vegas would improve is wrong. They're in a tailspin, the fourth quarter of their final game last year not withstanding.
We have eight very winnable games (Nicholls St., NMSU, NM, AFA, Wyo, CSU, UNLV, Utah St). We need to figure out how to win those games. Period. And we need to learn to win a few games we "aren't supposed to win."
The Coryell Celebration of Life brought back the days when we expected to win every game. Don switched from a power running game to passing because he was sick of losing 2 games per year! THAT's the attitude we need. It's almost 2 months until the season starts. If you're a real fan, you should be thinking out how were going to win 12 games!

Possible but not very probable. The team would need brain transplants to ensure that they did not choke away some easy wins like last year. They should have gone bowling last year. I will be happy if they can make a bowl, that's a big start in the right direction.
