It's so important for us to do well in that crazy OOC road schedule since a lot of these kids will be making their decisions in that time period.

This comment from the link excites me...
He now forecasts to being one of the most highly recruited big men on the west coast.

i though garrett had a few more offers from big name schools ... but perhaps not. it is promising to see us mentioned as one of the only few to offer, along with santa clara and i wonder how much of a friendship he and tapley still have?
there are a few F's being mentions as potential recruits but only one other true C right now in Kyle Caudill. hopefully we can land at least one true C 6'10 250+ and a few PF's to play with him. then add another in the 2012 to maintain class balance of bigs and smalls.

Can't teach 6'11".
But why aren't more schools after the kid? With Josiah Turner feeding him the ball, certainly all the top Div. 1 schools have seen him play. Anyone in Nor Cal seen the kid?

It looks like Louisville, UConn, Cal, Oregon State among others are also expressing interest. And he only averaged 7 pts, 8 rbs and 2 blks as a junior which is not very impressive at all ... but he is big. Considering he plays with very talented guards (although they don't pass the ball) .. it's surprising he doesn't have better numbers. rivals.yahoo.com/norcalpreps/basketball/recruiting/player-Robert-Garrett-102124

The other 'big' we are recruiting K Caudill had a good weekend at the adidas all star camp. He is even bigger than Garrett at 6'11 270, and has better skills at this point. "Kyle Caudill - Speed and agility aren't the name of his game, but Caudill is an absolutely massive human being. He has good touch around the rim with either hand, and knows how to use his body to create angles on the block. Still his lack of athleticism limits him from being a consistent finisher when going up against long and athletic players. He also needs to get into better shape, but his size, toughness, and reliable hands make him an interesting low block player out on the west coast." I know we will land a few PF's but I also hope we can get one of the true bigs on the radar Nathan Maxey 6'11 220 (possibly preping in 2010) Kyl Caudill 6'11 270 Robert Garrett 6'11 265 californiapreps.rivals.com/default.asp?type=3

I don't think Caudill is a fit in our system.

Would be ideal if we could get both Maxey & Garrett. Combined with the JC verbal, that might be sufficient to secure the PF/C positions for 2011-2012...

I don't think Caudill is a fit in our system. Not mobile enough Ryan? Caudill reminds me of Samhan from St Marys. He probably has about a 6-7 inch vertical, runs a 6.3, 40 and he isn't graceful or athletic at all .... but he has great hands and solid footwork and can score around the rim. Caudill definitely won't be a finisher from the wing, but he can score and defend in the half court set.

Just to clarify, yes. I've heard one of his major weaknesses is that he doesn't run the floor very well. In an open-court system such as one Fisher utilizes, you need more athletic, mobile big men who can run the floor. I'm not opposed to Caudill as a player, but I think he's a better fit for a half-court team.

Agree with Ryan. Our most successful posts have been the athletic, up and down the court type. We often worry that we dont have a "banger" down low, but Fisher has always managed to mold our guys into defensive weapons, regardless of size. I cant really think of too many times in recent history where our lack of physical strength inside was overly costly to us. Id say that the NIT game at Syracuse was the last time our lack of size was severely exposed (and it sure as hell was during that game). But that team doesnt even compare to this years team as far as overall size and depth.
We always had guys (Sanders, Slaughter, Habel, White, Amoroso, Thomas, etc) who rarely got taken advantage of due to being too thin or too short, etc. We dont need a huge post player simply to have a huge post player. I would like guys that are at least 225 though (a legit 225).

Pretty sure we used it over the last couple of seasons, Phil....Caudill is more of a fit for a team like ASU, the team he originally verballed to.

Sometimes when history has shown that one knows a fraction as much about a topic as someone with whom he disagrees, it's a good idea for the former person to just accept that rather than further displaying his ignorance by publicly criticizing that more knowledgeable person.

Pretty sure we used it over the last couple of seasons, Phil....Caudill is more of a fit for a team like ASU, the team he originally verballed to. SDSU has only averaged 70 pts of less for the last 3 years. We were 5th in the MW in scoring last year (Not really a run and gun offense). That may change next year with more ball handlers ... but Fisher prefers a ball control offense that limits turnovers. St Marys (with Samhan) averaged almost 10 pts more than we did last year ... and has for the last 3 years with the plodding and unathletic Samhan "slowing them down".
