I saw that yesterday.... WOW !!! We are the team to beat!!! Now if the hoop gods can keep us healthy, out of trouble (DUI,etc), and no bad grades - I wouldnt want to be the other team that has to play us!!!

Should be some great competition for playing time; we might be able to actually practice 5 on 5

I'll be curious to see the new profiles and see if players gained weight or height? I hope Carlwell, Williams and Shelton all lost 20-30 lbs and Thomas and Cheriet gained 20. Curious to see the official listed heights of the freshmen, too. People are suggesting Jamaal might be closer to 6'6 and Labradford might be closer to only 6'0.
Great roster though, 2-3 deep at every position and a good mix of experience but also motivated newcomers with something to prove.

It's also great to see this come out so early. Usually we are waiting for 1-2 player to still qualify, deal with transcript issues, etc. It seemed like we were waiting into late June for the Lawton issues to resolve (which they never did). Based on this early release of the roster names, I would assume everyone is qualified and there are few question marks heading into next year ... other than finalizing the last few games on the schedule.

I thought Shelton called it quits? He is listed on the roster. Who is going to replace him?

I thought Shelton called it quits? He is listed on the roster. Who is going to replace him? by all accounts he is coming back next year. On the floor after the MWC championship game he said he was coming back.

I thought Shelton called it quits? He is listed on the roster. Who is going to replace him? About 90% of the people on here retired him a few months ago. I think someone on here spotted him a few weeks ago playing pickup ball on campus. He will absolutely play this year ... how many minutes he will be able to play is the real question?

Great roster though, 2-3 deep at every position THIS year. But particularly if Leonard turns pro, we are going to have nothing in the way of bigs in 2011-2012 if the coaching staff doesn't bring in some tall talent immediately.

The last time we were all worried about how they would reload, they came up with the group that debuted last season with Carlwell, Shelley, Malcolm Thomas, Leonard and Tapley. So far, Xavier Thames and Bryant Crowder, which is an excellent start. I have full confidence the staff will add some additional frontline players, perhaps two bigs and a SG to join Crowder and Thames.

This is definitely the big time exciting year for us Bball fans. It has all of the chance to be the best in Aztecs history to date. OOC schedule is shaping up well, team is getting some pre-season notoriety and had a solid showing last year, with a tourney appearance. Entire starting roster returns.
I love having veterans like Carlwell, Shelton and Cheriet coming off the bench, all of them seniors (though Shelton has Jr. eligibility). So great that Cheriet is back because it will help avoid overworking Tim's knees. Alec also provides an option to help rest Shelton if starters get in foul trouble or injured. It will be a huge help to have Tim available come tournament time (MWC and NCAA).
I also love having 4 guards who can handle the ball. Aztecs have 3 combo guards (DJ, Chase and Rahon) and 1 true PG, but they could all play point if needed. I don't recall a better ball handling group of Aztec guards.
Then there is some 3 point talent with DJ, Chase, Rahon, coupled with some ability from Cheriet and Shelton. Not sure when Kawhi will get his 3 ball working, though I would suspect he could do it.
They'll miss the defensive athleticism of Shelley, but we'll see if Jamaal has that kind of talent.
Finally, this season is exciting because the MWC competition is going to be tough again. The team will get tested against UNLV (which is every bit as talented as Aztecs [at least if Willis stays on team], though they have not done well against our boys), UNM and BYU and will have to fight hard to win the conference. That is what we want, rather than the year when Brandon, Marcus and Abukar had a relatively easy run to the conference title. Winning it this year would be much more meaningful.
I'm very excited to have season tickets.

The key to this season will be 3 point shooting. KL will determine whether we are a 20 win team or 25 win team. If KL hits somewhere between 37% to 42% of his three pointer we will be a good team. If not expect every teams to play us zone.

I thought Shelton called it quits? He is listed on the roster. Who is going to replace him? Tim Shelton hasn't called it quits. He had an operation and is working out very hard. He is anticipating being ready for the opening of the season.

There are teams on this schedule who will surprise you. Furthermore, in the past three year we have lost multiple games to lower competition. Look at last years scheduled were we lost to Wyoming and Pacific.

Give me 12 wins in conference and 2-3 wins in the NCAAs and I'll be a rather happy camper

Saw him balling it up at the ARC a couple of nights ago. No brace, looked like he was moving easily. Dude looked a lot bigger too. Expect big things from Shelton this season.

Our bench is going to be better than a lot of teams we will play this year. It is going to be hard to get minutes on this team from the bench. Fisher has traditionally gone 7 to 8 deep. Will be interesting to see how he manages that this year. Williams might want to red shirt.
