Agree about the music aspect and I don't criticize them for their art, no matter how much I may personally not like it. Um, I recognize that you're 10 years younger than me, but how can you dislike the Doors? Morrison was really not much of anything as a poet, no matter how much the freaks would like to think he was, but the Doors music was pretty damn decent. =Bob Well, I'm close to 10 years older than you are, and I never gave a popcorn fart about those pot-head "rock" groups. Look in a mirror for an answer.

Bet you sit in your living room at night when PBS does its Doo Wap programs - oh wait, more likely you sit there watching Lawrence Welk and jonsing over the Lennon Sisters while you still try to get it up. Bet you really got a hard on when Norma Zimmer came on stage. Tell ya what Dave - does the last picture on this make you remember when you could get it up: www.welkmusicalfamily.com/lennonsisters.htmlHoly crap, the Lennon Sisters showing thighs - you must have creamed your jeans for a month. =Bob

Why do you try to make it an issue? Never mind. I know. It's all you've got for personal assault.

I was talking about music in general that I respect the artistry, the talent, of which I have none but not like their particular brand or lyrics.

In my opinion, these kids aren't stupid, they have been dumbed down and brainwashed by a rap culture which is antithetical to attaining even a high school education. These are not just numbers, we are talking about kids who just give up on school. Colin Powell was absolutely correct when he call this trend a national calamity. Your philosophy has been espoused for more than half a century: www.imdb.com/title/tt0047885/plotsummaryYet somehow, America has survived.

You can call it whatever you want, however the facts are the facts. And btw America survives in spite of these lazy crack smoking underachieving bums who can't even finish HS. America survives because many of it's citizens educate themselves and go on to excel and invent or engineer wonders which have changed the world. Automobiles, Space Exploration, Atomic Energy, and Computers didn't just create themselves. Please address my claim that rap music is dumbing down a generation, or has the inane soundscapes of Kanye Worst softened your mind as well?

Arnold Schwarzenegger stars in movies where he's seen killing people with giant machine guns, he's labeled an action hero and gets elected govenor of California. A rapper talks about guns and violence over a drum beat and melody, he's a disgrace to the nation and shouldn't be allowed to step foot in the white house. Amazing.

Please address my claim that rap music is dumbing down a generation, or has the inane soundscapes of Kanye Worst softened your mind as well? Most Black music has been accused of "dumbing down" every "younger generation." The truth is that by definition no pop music---rap, hip-hop, techno, or otherwise---and almost no rock music---"smarts up" anyone. Bob always brings up the Archies' "Sugar Sugar." He's a little less young than I am, but I clearly remember disco music (and songs with such "intelligent" titles as "Kung Fu Fighting," "Rubber Band Man," and "Convoy") getting tons of airplay when I was a tyke. You're a musician. Certainly you realize that anyone with two weeks' worth of guitar lessons can play ANY Bob Dylan song and a simple version of almost any Beatles song. That same person trying to play the musical part of ANY Kanye West song? Forget it. Most young people find (and have always found) rock music with any complexity (Yes, Rush, et al) to be BORING. In other words, rap is no more "dumb" than 99.99% of that which is on pop music radio. Yes, generations in America as they age often look back and ask themselves after listening to songs like Disco Duck and Rock Lobster, "I actually listened to that? Wow I must have been really stoned!" But my point is, what happens to these 60% of African American Males who don't graduate from HS? Has it ever been THIS BAD in the last 60 years? Should I just leave it alone and pray they leave me alone? And with this post I will conclude my annual tirade on pop music.

If a rap video is too violent it gets banned from TV but movies like Terminator and True Lies get shown without any controversy.

I get your argument! Do you understand the difference? Between lyrics and a motion picture? No, the difference between a action movie and a live rapper actively riling up a substance influenced crowd by advocating killing police and raping women.

Why do you try to make it an issue? Um, because you stated that you never "cared a damn" about music? Our music somewhat defined us and I suspect it defined you as well, despite the fact that you refuse to admit it. =Bob

He's a little less young than I am, John, I'm 61. I appreciate your notion that I'm younger than you but I'm not. What we have in common is that I was engaging in crisis/drug intervention with people your age at the In-Between when I was in my 20s. I understand that you are a part of the '70s lost generation where sex and drugs were the order of the day, but please do not include me in your farked up generation. =Bob
