BYU will be next (B12) followed in short order by TCU (B12). These schools now see no reason to hold the conference together. Their responsibility is to themselves, not other conference members. The MWC will be dead in 2-3 years. SDSU football will go the way of LB State shortly thereafter. We all need to get used to the idea.

Never get used to it. As few Aztec fans as there are, for some of us football dies when Aztec football dies. That would be a sad sad day. Too painful not to block out. While Arkansas would love to play OU and Texas every year, I can't see them leaving the SEC. Love the Hawgs......Grandaddy was a "Honorary Scout" for the Razorbacks thru the 50's, 60's, and 70's. ***Honorary Scout means you give a very large amount of money to the program.

I went to my first Aztec game in 1958 at the age of seven. I remember Dick Bass and UOP just taking us apart. I was at nearly every home game during the Coryell years and went to college at SDSU. If SDSU loses football then football will die for me. I just won't be interested any longer. I'm not sure we have much time left. I just wish we could find a way to have a respectable season on a fairly regular basis. When we joined the WAC most people thought we would win the championship every year. It didn't turn out that way, did it.

You know...I had not registered for this new board yet because I usually just read it over lunch for updates and entertainment...but I had to register so I could condemn and dismiss afan's comments about getting used to the idea of no SDSU football. With all do respect afan, what's wrong with you? Have some pride and spirit about Aztec Football...Coach Hoke is busting his butt to remind us all that there is legitimate tradition at this school and we should be proud. What we do not need is people already resigned to football on the mesa as being a dead program walking. I am sorry if this offends you...scratch that...I hope it does, at least a little, so you will realize that we all need to do everything in our power to promote Aztec football. We have enough naysayers in this town...we don't need the negative vibes emanating from chat rooms of the die hard fans. You will never find me desecrating the name of this program...where you will find me is at every home Aztec game hosting a darn good tailgate and flying the red and black proudly for all to see.

BYU will be next (B12) followed in short order by TCU (B12). Really? You think TCU cares to hand over all political power for their future by rejoining UT? And have you bothered to read anything about what U Texass wants in terms of a conference? =Bob

Arkansas withdrew from that conference several years before the Big-12 was formed and ended up in the SEC. Doesn't it seem likely that the SEC looks much better to Arkansas than an unsettled Big-Whatever? I just can't see what the advantages would accrue to the Razorback via such a move. AzWm

I'm sorry if I piss you off. My love of of the Aztecs takes a back seat to nobody in this forum. I'm looking at what's going on and I HATE it but reality must be faced. Before all of this started, most posters on here were optimistically predicting 6 wins this season. That's with a cupcake schedule Most people on here would also tell you that Brady needs at least 5 years to rebuild this program. Given what we've seen in the last week or so, do you think these goals and the time line they imply will be sufficient to build the program to a point whereby we'll be in the mix when the crap really begins to hit the fan? I don't. And it sucks. The fact is we have no leverage. We can be nothing but victims right now. Hopefully we turn it around. Hopefully, the LOCAL community will rediscover the Aztecs. Hopefully, in a season or two, we'll be ranked. Hopefully, we'll ACTUALLY WIN A BIG GAME AGAINST A BIG TIME PROGRAM! JUST ONE! Hopefully all of these things will occur and we'll get into the mix. Sorry to be a downer but that's the way I feel right now. You know what, =bob, we've had our differences but I've always had at least a certain amount of grudging respect for you. not any more...

AzWm I know that situation well William. Yes the Hawgs did play Texas every year in the Southwest Conf. It was a huge game and since they moved to the SEC that game stopped. They did play in 2004 and yes Texas is Arkansas biggest rival. I just can't see Arkansas leaving the SEC for a Big 12 conf that seems in trouble.

We have more TV sets then Nebraska. That means nothing until we win. Then it allows the Big 12 to reach the Calif. market. So we can improve our chances of being a Big 12 team if it go's to 16. If the Mountain go's down we need an escape plan. We need the Mountain to get to be a BCS league and we will be OK. Can't you see that they are trying to shut down Hatch in Utah? I see BYU going nuts. They push the Mountain or leave it.

Despite the advantages that BYU has over Utah...Utah still got the invite. BYU is kind of in a conundrum. They are so stinkin' worried about public perception (to a certain extent), how they appear to the public etc., being a team player in a conference that realistically, they have dominated in over time....to the extent that they have sacrificed their own good for the good of the conference. BYU could have been a Texas-lite in the MWC. I think this has been a severe wake up call to BYU. Either put up or get left behind. I think you will start to see BYU flex their muscle and throw their weight around a bit more to improve their own standing. I think BYU may make some pushes with the MTN, etc....this will be interesting to see how BYU reacts.

Its the defeatist attitude that must be eradicated for our program to turn the corner. High school recruits do not want to play for a team where the fan base does not believe in them. afan, I respect your opinion but do not agree at all. I would like to invite you to hang out pre-game at the Aztec Football Legacy tailgate with 75 ex-players so you can get a feel for just how serious we take Brady Hoke and his coaching staff's commitment to bringing a winner to the Mesa. If, after that experience, you are not free of your doom and gloom...then I will gladly accept the resignation of your fandom. Brady Hoke will deliver a winner, despite the afan's of the world. I have spent one on one time with him and he is a very special person...I just hope we can all recognize it.
