With the Big 12 on the verge of implosion, other conferences are circling. The Mountain West, after delaying a decision last week on whether to add Boise State, changed course and decided to add the Broncos on Friday. If nothing else, the addition of Boise State strengthens the Mountain West's effort to qualify for an automatic qualifying berth in the BCS for the 2012 and 2013 seasons. "As the week progressed and dominoes started falling, the feeling was, hey, let's get better," Mountain West commissioner Craig Thompson told SI.com on Friday. But Thompson added that the Mountain West may not stand pat. If five more schools do leave the Big 12, Thompson said his league would consider adding some of the leftovers -- Baylor, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State and Missouri could be left in the league -- or even potentially merging with the Big 12. "That could be a possibility," Thompson said. "Everything is on the table right now." That would be the LAST option for left for big 12 teams.

Baylor's only option will be the WAC.

That would be the LAST option for left for big 12 teams. Kansas and MIzzou might have other options, but for Baylor and Iowa State and Even K-State, they might be cusa, mac bound unless KU and MIzzou force people to take them.

Or, we could merge with them and leave some MWC teams out in the cold. Yes, all options are on the table and they are not all good. Keep your fingers crossed that we have a home when this is all done. The Fred Noonan School of Navigation.

It looks like we are not going to lose any schools and we should get the chance to add some more.

I think there is a VERY good chance that we will be either a football power or non existent in 5 years.

Keep your fingers crossed that we have a home when this is all done. The Fred Noonan School of Navigation. I disagree. I don't see the MWC 'kicking out' any teams so they can add more Big 12 teams. Add Kansas/K-State to get to 12 teams (Kansas being not to far from CSU/Air Force) maybe Baylor & Missouri to get to 14. I think Iowa State gets the royal shaft in all this mess. I'm still worried about Utah going to the Pac 10 since Texas A&M may not be going to the Pac 10 and they would likely want 16 teams...but with the MWC expanding and possibly adding the Big 12 teams they may realize its better to stay in the MWC.

Or, we could merge with them and leave some MWC teams out in the cold. Yes, all options are on the table and they are not all good. That is certainly possible. However, considering I'm hearing that speculation only on internet message boards and not from any of the pundits and one assumes the pundits have the most sources, I think it is very unlikely. In order of likelihood, I think that in 2011, the MWC will be the same as it was in 2009 except: 1. With the addition of Boise St. 2. With the addition of Boise St. and minus Utah. 3. With the addition of Boise St. and Kansas and KSU. 4. With the addition of Boise St., Kansas, KSU and ISU and Baylor (gag). 5. With the addition of Boise St., Kansas, KSU, ISU and Missouri. 6. With the addition of Boise St., Kansas, KSU, ISU, Missouri, Fresno St. and Houston. The conference isn't earning nearly enough TV money to go to 16 now and really not even enough to go to 14. So the greater the number, the less the likelihood. Also, I just don't see Missouri coming. Not only would Mizzou be valuable to the Big East like KU and KSU would, if aTm goes to the SEC, Mizzou would be the logical other SEC addition. Plus, we still don't know for sure that Mizzou won't be added to the Big Ten. So I think Mizzou to the MWC is almost completely pie in the sky speculation. Oh and I certainly don't have Baylor over Fresno or Houston based on merit. I have Baylor there only because I think KU, KSU and ISU might feel sorry for them and present themselves as a package deal.

KSU and KU will go together the state of Kansas will make sure of that, the 2 real ?s become do the SEC take anyone outside of the ACC or and big east, that would be bad, and does Missouri get an invite to Pac 10 or big 10. I wonder if the MWC could go to 14 adding KSU, KU, MIssouri, and Baylor or Houston

I don't see SD St in danger of being kicked out at all. I can understand some of your apprehension but from where I see things the Mt West appears to be thisclose to that BCS status. Picking up Boise says a lot I think. Let the Big 12 implode(it will) then add Houston and one of the Big 12 leftovers(KU if no Pac 10, Mizzou, or KSt) to get to 12 and a conf championship game. If the state of Kansas says both Kansas schools must be a package, take'em both and leave out Houston.

We won't get kicked out with our strong b-ball program and our location. Why are people talking about Houston? Who would want them? For the market I guess.

For the market I guess. we won't get kicked out simply because of the bad pub it would bring on the conference. They have a solid football program and would become tcu's travel partner

The remaining 5 Big 12 teams are 5 teams of a former 6 team division (minus Nebraska). Offering them as a group might be more attractive to them rather than being split up. I would be happy to offer them plus Houston, Tulsa or Fresno to make a 16 team conference that keeps things together. Theres some real good basketball teams that would be picked up, and a few decent football teams. The only threat of losing any teams would be Utah to the PAC 10 if Texas A&M goes to the SEC. They can be replaced.

Thompson by his inability to act has landed in the right position at the right time. Who would you rather be? SDSU in a 10 team conference looking to add teams or ISU in a conference collapsing and no one wants you? If Thompson were smart ( see wikipedia under a box of rocks), he would go to the Big 12 which will be the little six and merge with the Little Big 12 the controlling conference. You keep the name and the BCS bid in tact. Thompson would have to give up the reins and move to Omaha but that is the right thing to do for the MWC. You're there Craig do the right thing and merge with the Big 12.
