K5 is right, the wazzu game is all about perception and recruiting. Most of the recruiting battles wiil be with WSU, OSU, FSU and to a lesser degree UW & OU. Beating wazzu takes away their argument that they are a better program because of the BC$ crap & possibility of playing in a Rose Bowl. This is a critical year for recruiting, Rocky is the new HC & wins will be important to get that rare 4* player. The recruiting list looks good for us but it could be better. Winning solves a lot of problems.

Can't assume wins in January looking ahead to fall, BUT that's what we do here. So, Cal Poly can't run with us. Army may be a tougher game than some might expect. They are coming off a bowl win that was unexpected and they are well coached with Rich Ellerson, who we should all remember and never discount. I way we win something like 31-21. So, it's Monday, Sept. 12 and the hype for the then 2-0 Aztecs will begin. WSU, a BCS team, coming to town. And, when was the last time the Aztecs have beaten a BCS team??? It is a big game, last home game before conference play starts which could be well into Oct. for all we know now. I'd say there should a be a real buzz about WSU game regardless of what their record will be then. Add that it could well be the KGB Skyshow game as well. Big Deal in SD I'd say. Great points. Cal Poly: Gonna be not just a win but a beat down. CL (Consistent Loser) is gone and Ellerson's gone too and we owe them one. Make that two. Army: Agree it's going to be a tough one. When was the last time the SDSU football team traveled all the way across the country? I honestly can't remember. WSU: Thanks for explaining again to AztecGold why the game is a very important one. Under the circumstances it's one more "statement" game (borrowed that one from CL) to show the program has fully turned around. And I think it would be a great idea to make it the Sky Show night. Get 45K our to root for the Aztecs to beat a Pac-12 team again - finally.

I agree with your sentiments about hearing enough about Hoke but really WSU? They are the worst team in the PAC 10 and a horrible team. Who cares if we beat them? I mean you could have talked about reviving our rivalry with Fresno State, starting one with Army, etc. To keep with the slang in this thread, whatever makes your boat float. LOL. You better care. It's teams like WSU, UW, OSU, OU that are the reason for our recruiting troubles, not U$C and UCLA. The only thing those schools have over us is being in the PAC and if we stomp a mudhole in them it will be a big deal in winning recruiting battles with them from here on out. This game is by far more important than Army/Cal Poly and I'd say it's on par with the Michigan and CSU Fresneck games. If you start with very low goals you are not going to get much better. I don't really recall WSU pulling in many recruits from San Diego.

Those rankings tell us how the team will be in 2015. Do you know where their class was ranked four years ago? Here you go, John: rivals.yahoo.com/washingtonstate/football/recruiting/teamrank/2007/PAC12/allIn 2007, WSU's class was dead last in the Pac-10. Edit: Both you and Gold might note that in 2007, Up-the-Wazzu's only four-star recruit was Grossmont transfer Terry Mixon, who chose the Cougars over SDSU. Of course, since Mixon has now used up his eligibility, he's no longer on the WSU roster.

That has nothing to do with the fact that this is an important game. If you "don't really recall" WSU stealing recruits form SD then you aren't paying attention.

All are California kids and with VJ Brown and Sampson being seniors, our staff really worked hard to try to get Ratliff and Wilson. Beating WSU in September would go a long way toward keeping such kids away from WSU in the future.

Actually Williams was 6 classes shy of getting into SDSU so he chose the easy route & walked right into wazzu. He is now done as far as FB eligibility goes.

Wilson tore up the pac10 last year! I had no idea whether you're serious or kidding so tried to find his stats. After a few minutes I gave up in frustration. What a POS website. I have no idea where the stats are. Further, they don't even have WSU's 2011 football schedule up! (They do have a link to the 2009 schedule, however, presumably for those planning on going back in time. )

Heck, yeah! 1,000 yards receiving as a true freshman? Kid's a stud for sure. (Although I note you didn't get the stats from Up-the-Wazzu's official site.)
