On March 26, 1999, Steve Fisher was hired as the mens basketball coach at SDSU. Probably the greatest hire SDSU could have brought in to boost both academics and athletics. I can go on and on how just making the NCAA Tournament was a pipe dream in the Fall of 1999 let alone making it to the National Championship game a year ago. Two Sweet 16 in row I'm on cloud 9. Happy Anniversary Coach Fisher enjoy your day.

"We're gonna win. And I know you probably say 'well I've heard that before.' We're gonna win." youtu.be/cj_jXb_7I6U?feature=sharedAs a side note, it's interesting to see the accolades we bragged about. That video was less than halfway through Fisher's tenure here, and the second half of his career was when we really turned the page.

I remember that well. I called into Coach Kentera’s Show a told him “enough with the retreads and community college level coaches, SDSU needs to hire an established name coach to attract some recruits.”
Happily, my thinking was shared by the SDSU administrators and Fisher was brought in. It’s been a pleasure watching the program turn around into what it has become! Here’s to 25 more years of success!

We will always owe a debt of gratitude to Minnesota (for Dutch's dad), Illinois (GA), South Dakota State (the other SDSU), Indiana State, Michigan, Western Michigan, the Sacramento Kings, and Rich East HS for the legacy that will be Aztec hoops.

I really hate it when someone says "You're only as old as you feel." I feel a lot older than my chronological age. sigh

Two great hires in football Saint Don and Rocky Long. Two great hires in Basketball Fisher and Dutch. Big things that have changed the direction of this University all for the good.

Two great hires in football Saint Don and Rocky Long. Two great hires in Basketball Fisher and Dutch. Big things that have changed the direction of this University all for the good. Four of the best hires by the Aztecs in the 60+ years I've been an Aztec. Hiring Coach Coryell almost definitely saved the entire football program. Otherwise I believe our football program would have gone the way of Long Beach State, L.A. State, UOP and others of our peers at the time. Hiring Coach Fisher along with Coach Dutcher has brought the basketball program to heights that I don't believe anyone even imagined possible, at least when they were sober.
